I went down to my buddy's ranch for a cull and management buck weekend last Thursday-Sunday. We did a lot of damage control on deer that just aren't what he's trying to grow. All of the bucks shown were between 4 and 10 years old.

Yes it's MLD and yes it's 3200 acres high fence. No tags, no breeders, and no DMP's. He let's his buddies take the culls and we killed 8 bucks this past week. I was able to take 3 of them. With those 3 included a 10 pt that was the biggest of the bunch. Having owned and managed this place for almost 30 years he's got a hell of a deer herd and with the rut getting closer to the peak it was a blast chasing mature deer.

I was able to snap a few pics of 2 deer with a lot of potential as well. Enjoy.

Nice. We do the same but none of us have a Yeti yet. We broke the hitch rack we had so many deer. grin

Did you see a ton of hogs or are they trapping them year round?

What makes a 10 pt a cull there? Any mature 10 that is not a trophy?

We didn't see any hogs. Luckily there's very few on this place.

The only 10 point that was truly a cull was the one I killed with short tines. He was 5 and scored a whopping 112". The other two 10's killed were management bucks. They were both over 130. The heavy 10 I killed was 5 and was never going to make 170 which at this time is the goal for every deer on this ranch. The second 10 on the back of the trailer rack was 10 years old. He's been real sneaky for a long time and at one point a few years ago he was one of those deer that was close but never quite made it. They kept trying to give him "another year" but he was in pretty poor shape this year and only weighed 145 lbs.

All of the 8 points needed a bullet. The taller one I shot was 4 and went 126" and was the biggest. My friend and his dad try to shoot their trophies at 7 or 8. Last year they killed 2 bucks over 180"(2 biggest deer ever). I have pics of those deer but I'm not good with putting their pics on the web. This year they aren't planning on taking any trophies but next year there could be a couple ranch records.

You chose your friend wisely sir! LOL

Great managment deer and your friend's place is without a doubt top notch!

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!
