Brother just picked up an AR. Thought I'd get him a good case as a gift. You guys have any suggestions?

Pelican is nice and sturdy but heavy and not terribly discreet

Pelican is great for a hardcase. I've got a 5.11 36" soft case that I like alot. Runs about a hundred bucks or so.

just got through comparing the 5.11 soft cases to voodoo tactical. Seems to be a wash.

Pelican cases are great for air travel, but they are expensive, heavy and bulky.

if you're looking for something for trips to the range or lease then consider a Drago or Vodoo soft case.

These soft cases are pretty nice and available in something other than Multicam. I've got a couple of them and have found them more than capable of getting an AR from the house to the range and back.

Thinking about ordering up a third. Considering the value of the magazines, there is no cheaper way to buy this quality of a case.

I made a leather one for mine because I don't need six thousand pockets, a big square case, or strings hanging off my case. This will sit behind the seat of my truck without having to scooch the seat up.

Plano makes some good cases.

The new weather proof planos are really nice. They are almost (not quite) a pelican. Come with pluck n pull foam and the 42" is only $70 t Wal Mart or Academy

I'd say the new Plano All-Weathers for the money. I saw them @ Walmart today for $49!! I have a VooDoo. I like it & all the extra pockets. Might have to get one of those Plano's though.

I use a voodoo tactical 42" double case for my POF 20" 308 with full size scope and 16" 5.56 AR with aimpoint both loaded and it fits great. Also has places for 2 pistols inside where I carry my glock, holster, mag holster, and 2 extra mags. It also has 3 huge pockets on the outside that I carry extra 308 mags, 5.56 mags, ammo, ear protection, gloves and blah blah blah..

It weighs in at 47 pounds fully loaded but the backpack type straps helps out. You can throw it on your back and carry all your gear at once. Pretty good I'd give it a B+. I've noticed a little wear on the side of my AR I think from the scope turrets on my 308.

I ordered the voodoo tactical last night. Think it will suit him fine.

I use a 36" Voodoo for my patrol rifle. It's a double case but I keep just one rifle in it. Extra padding since I keep my rifle in the trunk. Great quality case. Your brother will enjoy it!!
