The Buckmaster's are not history. You must be referring to Nikon's new
PROSTAFF 5 riflescope. This scope features several technology upgrades that will satisfy even the most demanding hunters. A bright new optical system, remarkable hand-turn reticle adjustments with Spring-Loaded Instant Zero-Reset turrets, and a convenient quick-focus eyepiece with a 4x zoom ratio, make adjustments while in a shooting position a breeze. Nikon is just trying to male it easier for shooters to understand the designation of different scopes and were they fit into the riflescope line.

Longtime hunter/shooter/fisherman who loves being outdoors. I used to hunt/compete with my son, but he's now stationed in Germany. Never enough time.

I took a chance on the Prostaff 5 based on so many people that praise Nikon optics... It was the worst scope I've ever had. Worse than the Simmons Prairie Master I had on a .17HMR. It promptly got returned and replaced with what I was going to get in the first place, a Vortex Viper for $10 more...

Maybe I just got a Friday scope? It sure did leave a sour taste in my mouth and not sure I would buy another one any time soon.

My nikon's have all been great. They are the older Monarchs though.

Have 2 Nikon's from around 1995- 4-12x50's.
Never had an issue with either.
Were clearer and brighter than the Leupolds at the time.
One is on an 06 and one on a .264 WM.
Got a good 8 pt Thanksgiving weekend with the 06 at 195 yds that I had a hard time seeing with binocs.
Sight in every year before season but have yet to have to adjust them.

Nikon customer service is a joke, I lost a turret cap and asked for a replacement and received an email saying I need an account with them. So I try to start an account and the only way you can do that is if you give them access to your google, yahoo etc account so they can see what you look at for product development. Go buy a Leupold and be done with it.

You need to get with the people paying you money and tell them their customer service is a joke. I don't know how you get on here and endorse them when their website barely even works. I talked to 2 reps that had no idea about the custom turrets then when you click on the link it doesn't work. Pfft

I've always liked Nikon but the current lineup is so bulky.

Glass seem good

Reticle choice poor
Cs poor
Fit and finish poorer. They look cheap and have all that gold on them.

Nikon customer service was great for me. Sent in a defective scope and they replaced it with a new one.
