Not a huge deer hunter. I go 1-2 times a year, but Im set to go down to our LF property in Goliad co sunday. Repots in the area say the rutt has started so I think Ill take a set of antlers to play with. I don't enjoy sitting in a stand looking at a feeder so Im more of a spot and stalk. I've been successful every year for the past 3 years harvesting a nice buck, with the exception of last year, didn't go. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! EX. how often, how loud, whether I should even bother, techniques.... Im a sponge

I would go to youtube and start there. Im sure there is alot of wannabe rattlers but you will get the general idea. try to find videos that have worthy people in them....like hunting show hosts......I believe Chris Brackett has a video or 2 out there. Good luck and hopefully this gets you pointed in a direction to go.

Find a rub line, get hidden and face into the wind.

I like to make a mock rub and scarpe with the antlers and grunt over this situation. if no results do a short but aggressive rattle session hitting or stomping the ground while doing so..

Patience is the key

I have had decent results with rattling, but by no means consider myself a pro or even good at it.

Like curt said, find an area where you can see your downwind side well as that is where they will likely come from. Taking a grunt call to go with it may also be a good idea. I would camo up and be ready for fast action.

Good luck
