I have been lucky enough to get a workplace sponsored (free)quail hunt at La Bandera Ranch, south-west of Carrizo Springs. I saw on their web site that a 3-1/2 day hunt goes for $2250!!! Sounds VERY nice. Anyone hunted there?

Yes. I hunted there in early November. Make sure you call ahead and request to Southwest Lodge. They have better guides, dogs, mules, rooms and food. You only hunt 2 - 2.5 hours in the AM and then 2 hours in the PM. There is a ton of cover but I would recommend staying within 50 yards of the roads. That is where we found all the birds (eating deer corn put out). Gene (the ranch manager) is a bit of a grump and runs the place with an iron fist but thankfully you don't have to mix with him too much. Have a good time.

I must admit, the La Bandera is the NICEST place I've ever hunted. Lot's of native, wild birds. Mostly bobwhites, but quite a few blues. Excellent hunting vehicles, ranging from Jeeps to high racked trucks w/scissor lifts. Unbelievable lodge and lounge facility with swimming pool, jacuzzi, card & pool tables, satellite TV, and open bar. The only place I've seen that has more mounts is Bass Pro or Cabela's. Lot's of African game mounts, exotic pheasants, elk, and a world class whitetail collection. Mine was a freebie hunt, but we were treated like high rollers. I could never afford or justify paying the prices they command, but if you ever get the oppritunity and can swing it, GO!!
