When we don't have hunters in hunting exotics on our bowhunting ranch, I am bowhunting whitetails on our lease in Northeast Texas. This year we acquired a new lease in a area known for big bucks. We actually had been hunting down the road from this place for the last couple years. I took the biggest buck there until this year with my bow. He was 137 4/8's. This property is located about a mile from the Red River. Lot's of crops are grown on the river and it makes a difference on the bucks body size and antlers. Our property is butted up to this, but it is planted pine. The visibility on 99% of this place is only about 40 yards. During season I would hunt for days without seeing a deer. If it wasn't for game cameras it would have been hard to hunt it as much as I had. There was one particular buck that got my attention. We only had one pic of him in early November. As the season progressed we had numerous good bucks on camera and me and my two boys had passed on a few bucks. The property has only one lane that is about 100 yards long. It is where they loaded logs. I decided to put a bow blind on it where maybe I could see a few more deer. I hadn't hunted with a rifle in several years, but I decided to take my rifle with me starting the end of November. I was reluctant to put a blind on this lane because it is so close to the county road. I was concerned when the leaves started to come off that someone might be able to see my blind and possibly steal it. Laying those concerns aside I put the bow blind out. Fast forward to Sunday evening. At dark thirty a big bodied buck stepped out in front of me at 25 yards. My shot was at 35 yards. It happened so fast and close that it was kind of hard to find my cross hairs. This buck was 20 4/8' inches wide with a lot of mass. He had a total of 15 points and scored 165 1/8.

way to go Rickey, you got a great place over there, that water and nutrition do those deer good. Im sure there are even bigger ones out there, just have to be patient. Its kind of like hunting in the North, thick woods.
