HF, LF or no fence. If my old man was paying for a hunt I would be hunting. Especially if it was for a deer like that.
Just my opinion though.

I know a guy that waited 11 years for an archery tag to take a mountain goat in Colorado. He hiked up to above 13,000 feet over rocky, frigid terrain, stalked, and successfully took a mountain goat with a bow. That's what I view as a hardcore hunter. Stories like that impress people. Stories like this do not. That's my humble biased viewpoint.

Eh to each their own. I don't mind hi fences, but don't like the idea of breeder deer, ear tags brought in genetics etc.
Its a big deer but possibly like you I attribute it more to a science project than a hunt.
Its a big one. Fence no fence.. Nice buck Still puts meat in the freezer. This sums up everything in my noggin.

I only hunt low fence free range deer...but that is just me. Your Dad does have a very nice buck in antlers, and body..very nice!Way to go Dad!!!! What someone else does in their hunt(high or low fence)to harvest their trophy by legal means is --OK..Life is short-- so enjoy your hunt the way you like it.. Go with your Dad..you will have fun and I am sure he will like just being with you and having you with him, even if you do not agree..one day when he is no longer around..you will wish he was here to just be with in a high fence area to watch him hunt his deer the way he likes. just saying..

I appreciate the OP's opinion about hunting HF, but surprised that anyone (hunter) would turn down the generosity of their father's gift of a trophy brute big deer. Life is too short to worry about little things like fences, when you get an opportunity to be in the woods or hunting camp with your Dad.

Is he interested in adopting?
Arise.Kill.Eat -Acts 10:13 I have read a bunch of stuff on the internet about Star Wars but that does not mean I can skin a deer with a light saber.

It's not that I chose not to go. He does most of it while I'm in school. He will be leaving me in January to go Kylie hunting

I take every opportunity to hunt with my dad that I can, regardless if he's paying for it or not. Never know when will be the last hunt. It would be a shame to not have that hunt in your memory bank because of a fence.

Go hunting with your Dad EVERY chance you get! There will be a time you will wish you had! Kill one of those deer get it mounted because there will be a time you wish you could look at the mount on the wall and dream of that hunt you had with your Dad! I guess what I'm saying is don't let a fence get between you and memories of your Dad! My Dad died when he was 54 of prostate cancer. I was 24. I'm now 53 and the best and most memories I have was hunting and fishing trips! Oh to here his laughs and his dry since of humor again!!!! Make memories!!
