I am relatively new to archery, am interested in a whisker biscuit. Right now I have a drop rest that the arrow falls off of pretty easy in the stand. Anything I need to know prior to purchase or are they pretty standard?

Yep pretty much standard, I would get a self contained drop away though, JMO.

Under perfect conditions, a drop away is the way to go. But you will never have those conditions in the field. Crawling around stalking a turkey, twisting for a shot in a tree, nothing more frustrating than constantly dealing with your arrow falling off. Whisker biscuit is the way to go.

I've shot the biscuit until this year. They work just fine. I will add that now that I am shooting a quad drop away ( which the arrow can't fall out ), I will never shoot the biscuit again. My shoots are more accurate and quieter now, and my fletchings are holding up better.

I still use the biscuit and probably will continue to for some time. Wavy vanes can be cured by switching to blazer. I am very accurate with it as well. I am successful both hunting and on paper. I won the hunters division archery leauge at gander mountain in College Station in 2009(I think) shooting against guys with drop always. Just remember that follow through is crucial because the arrow remains in contact with the rest the entire time. Don't drop you bow arm. The only disadvantage I've found is noise at draw. If the deer is within 10-15 yds there is a good chance it will hear the arrow drawing against the biscuit. I hunt in a popup 25yds from the feeder and it is usually a non issue. The biscuit is inexpensive, reliable, trustworthy and accurate. That's why I use it.

F&S or Outdoor Life did an article recently where they did a bunch of archery tests like whisker biscuit vs drop away, short brace height vs long, etc., there was no accuracy lost with the whisker biscuit within 30 yards, cant remember if they tested the difference in noise though.
it was a great article for common archery misconceptions, from 30 yards and in there is not much difference in any of the big variables, >30 yards though and you start to see the differences.
If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

I started out with a whisker biscuit and after a few yrs changed to a QAD Hunter drop away. I liked it when I first got it but gave it up after a yr. I am back to a whisker biscuit to stay. Can't much go wrong with a whisker biscuit on a hunt but several thing did go wrong with my drop away. Simple is better.

Edit: meaning you can have it to see if you like them or not. It's fairly new and it works great for me. I just had to have the QAD.

QAD drop away rest is the way to go. You can turn your bow anyway you want and arrow isn't coming out. Quality Archery Designs is what qad stands for and I switched from the biscuit to this and love it . Heck I even put a qad on my wife's bow. Jmo....

whisker bisquit is great, unless you hunting freezing wet conditions... gets wet and freezes can really throw off your accuracy. drop away is definatly a better option IMHO

I've shot some form of a whisker biscuit for a long time. I don't like that it knocks off a few FPS but I also don't like my arrow falling off of the rest did that a lot when I had a drop away.

I've shot a biscuit for years until this one. I know have a drop away in which the arrow can't fall off, which I believe is "self-contained". I will never go back to a biscuit. My drop away is MUCH quieter, doesn't wear on fletchings, and nothing to slow the arrow down when you release.
Thank you Lord for the gifts in my life.

I think that the price for a drop away does not justify the benefits. My whisker biscuit was less than $40. I looked at my local shop a couple days ago for a good quality QAD drop away and it was close to $175. I'm just not sure it's worth the money. I hunt in some pretty right areas and the WB has never let me down
