I personally dont think local city police should be able to know if you have CHL or not, it is not thier business.

I don't know if my CHL got me out of a ticket or not. Got pulled over at 3am going to the deer lease. Turned a corner going down hill pulling a trailer. I was pumping the brakes but it was still coasting pretty fast. Got pulled over about 3 miles down the road by the car that been behind me. Was told I was going 39 in a 30 but he also wanted to verify that I actually owned the trailer and 4 wheeler that I was pulling. Told him I had a CHL, he asked where, I said on my right hip, he said well don't do anything stupid, I said no problem. We talked for a while and he told me to have a safe drive to the lease. Pretty nice guy and handled everything pretty well.
FYI, I was fine with him pulling me over because my truck had been stolen out of my drive way a week earlier and was glad that they were actually checking to make sure that I was't on a truck and 4 wheeler shopping spree.

I have been stopped about half dozen times in 40 years. Only got one ticket (48 in a 40)- that was from a LEO for the University. City police chief gave them authority to stop people and write tickets off campus. The campus chief had a 'no warning' policy. (both chiefs are now history, but campus LEOs retained authority thru legislation) Other stops- tail lite out x2, no turn signal with lane change on Interstate, crossed centerline (of my side of street)on 4 lane street, & trailer license plate not visible. ALL were dealt with respect (despite the attitude / actions from campus LEO- approached my truck with his sidearm unholstered!)
Also a question: Are you required in Texas to tell a LEO that you have a firearm (concealed carry or not) in the vehicle if you are stopped?

Being on the other side of the window, Ill throw in my thoughts. First, to answer nuprofessor, yes, if you have a CHL and are carrying, you have to inform us. And Id suggest doing it either way as it pops up when we run you. Id prefer knowing either way. Think about it this way, most officers killed are killed during traffic stops. If I know you have a gun because you told me, I generally assume you probably do not have bad intentions. If you reach in your glove box, or lean over and I see it as you are grabbing your wallet etc, it may appear you are reaching for it. You know you are good law abiding person, but I dont know you and there is no way to tell 'what bad guys look like'.

Not to be facetious and i understand your view point but if you run someone during a traffic stop and you see that they are a CHL holder wouldnt that put you in the same mind set as someone who presented you their CHL at initial contact? A CHL basically tells you the person is not a felon and has no recent significant criminal history. Just because someone didnt inform you there is a firearm in the vehicle but has a CHL would you assume they have bad intentions or not?

If I stopped you in Dallas County.. You had a good or bad attitude..did make a little difference. It never had anything to do with your CHL..or if did not have a CHL... You were stopped for what you did with or without your vehicle... Then ----It was not the problem that was the problem...It was YOUR Attitude about the problem that was the problem..

I have been stopped once while having my concealed weapon. I had the window down and handed the officer my Dl,CHL, and Insurance. He asked if the gun was loaded, and I replied yes. He simply said good deal, slow down please. I thanked him and drove away. I believe it is all about the particular officer and your attitude.

Sorry, I drive 25,000 miles a year and the last time I was pulled over was 1986...... guess I'm really lucky! This is over a 13 year period and I drive around 35,000 miles a year.... Nobody is perfect.
I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

14 times is a lot, might want to change the way you drive. You should flashed the LEO a concealed carry badge and tol them you 'were one of you all'!
Only at the end do you realize the power of the Dark Side.

I don't see how folks get out of tickets. Everytime I'm pulled over I put my hands on the wheel, roll down windows and turn the interior light on. Only once I got out of a ticket and that was last year by a DPS officer 58 in a 55. I was so happy he gave me a warning I shook his hand and told him it was my first warning ever. I don't get pulled over often, but if I do I'll put money on it that I'll get the full side of the law 99.9 times out of a 100. I have no idea why I don't catch breaks like others. I'm actually not rude or anything either.

You sure you weren't being too kind there Brandon. It just depends. I have been pulled over about 12 times in the last 5 years, I was let go all of them. Now last month in Frisco I had a bunghole donut eater get me on Radar in a speed trap, He was off his bike and writing ticket before even asking any question. I guess the city need some christmas bonuses to hand out......
