I've been on that exact hunt before. How do dad's not realize their kids are ruining it for everyone?

I feel your pain.

[8:20 am 10 year old points gun at back of his dads head with finger on the trigger.]

I'd be gone!!!

I don't always shoot deer, but when I do, I prefer B&C's.

Every guided goose hunt I have ever been on the hunters all helped put out dekes. Most of the times the guide would demonstrate how he wanted it done AND help. It was actually a learning experience for me as I don't do any goose hunting on my own.

The unsafe gun handling is totally unacceptable. I would have told the guide to get the situation under control. He is in charge in the field just like the Manager of a store or restaurant. If he didn't fix it ASAP I would have walked and plainly explained to him I did not intend to pay for such a poorly run hunt.

I would have also let the Dad know his son had no business handling a gun around other folks if he was so irresponsible.

You got owned by a 10 year old. HAHA! Just kidding, you should never let someone point a gun at you. Never.

Thank you for the good read clap

PLEASE tell me there will be a movie made about this hunt...

I'm sorry you had a bad hunt, but I bet, if you call that guide and talk to him.......hell even suggest he read this thread, he'll comp you a hunt.

No one is out to get a comped hunt...but you could help him out in the long run by how he handles it from here.

If you said something to the guide, and nothing was done, I would post their name up on here for all to avoid. The safety issue is far away a huge disaster, but showing up just an hour before the hunting and hardly any of the dekes are even out yet? THen they don't do anything to help control the kids so EVERYONE has a good time? We all know the kids did, and I'm sure they paid the $200+ per gun with their allowance huh?

everything sounds pretty normal for a snow goose hunt, they hang up and you skyblast or you go home empty handed.

the part that would get me is the 10yr old. The "professional guide" should have handled that situation and put an end to it.

I guess your not comfortable saying who this hunt was with?

Attention rickym, this is not a troll post, just a good hearted fun type of post

The guide is on the forum. If they care to post that's on them. I'm not gonna out them because I feel like 90% of the frustration was due to the kids. That being said if I ever do another guided hunt I will damn sure make it clear that I will not hunt with kids in the group.

My guess is that if a guide doesn't have enough gumption to correct a 10 year old on a hunt he's running, he won't have the guts to post up and take responsibility for this train wreck.

I wouldn't be so quick to condemn all kids. My son killed his first limit of geese at the age of 12 and was helping with the decoys the next morning when the temp was six degrees. The kid in your story had no business being there but it is not his fault he got away with acting the way he did. Blame the Dad first and then the guide.

Your son is a throw back to the old days. That boy is a hand, and sadly most now days aren't. I try a discourage people from bringing novice kids on hunts that might be mixed. I would have tuned on that kid then thrown their release out so I would never mail out to them that we are booking.

Oh I agree with you. If I would have done what that kid did my dad would have taken my butt back to the truck for a "motivating speech" But a lot of parents these days just turn a blind eye. Its just not worth the chance unless I know the Dad and kid before hand. Diffidently not saying that all kids are like these kids were. When it comes down to it, its all about the parents.
