We have been testing out some decoys we have made. We hunt here in central KS and it has always been difficult to finish big flocks of specks, lessors, and snows. We have had to put out at least 20 dozen fullbodies to get them to look. We done a test with our decoys and field hunted with 40 quality decoys mixing juvie specks, old specks, lessors, greaters, and a few snows. Even I thought the odds were not in our favor. *Note this was public ground and a traffic winter wheat field and we had 10X's the results than 350 fullbodies on a private field on the "X" two days before.

Has anyone ever tried this and if so what were the results?

Here is a pic of what we were using in our spread. We were hunting in a field but you get the point.

Not sure it really has much to do with quality of the decoy.

While big spreads are more visible to large flocks, they also mean more opportunities to screw up. Bunches of deeks that don't move right, some fall over, they don't shift around like large groups of birds do on the ground.
Standard procedure for hunting skittish greaters in the panhandle is to only use three or four dozen deeks.

There's a lot more small groups of geese on the ground than there are gigantic groups (not talking about snow crows).

I usually find movement to be more important than spread size. Detail is important but only on smaller weary groups. I think size of spread should be tailored to size of groups in the area. Those decoys look nice, especially like the head positions!
