 Do Y'all Hunt Public or Lease Private?

Hey Y'all,
I am new to Texas and this year I was lucky enough to get on a deer lease. I moved out here from Maryland, out there people mostly hunt public land so the whole leasing thing is new to me.
I am just curious if y'all hunt public land or buy a duck lease for the year. I am looking to get more into duck hunting, I have been doing it for 2 years so just getting started really and I am itching to get out there. I want to make sure that when next year comes around I can be ready for the season.
So in Texas, is the duck hunting similar to deer hunting in a sense that most people lease private land to hunt?

With Ducks, more people use public than do deer hunters. But, I'm certain more people hunt private land duck than public land duck.
there is quite a bit of public land for duck hunting.

i hunt public. the only time i hunt private is when i get an invite!!
maybe when i hit the lottery i will have a private land to hunt

I've been on the same private lease for about 15 years.

A lot of people hunt terfowl on public land in TX, there is just a small percentage of land available to hunt in relation to the size of the state. Most deer hunting is done on private lands.
BTW welcome to Texas, I wanna see some pics of your Maryland hunts.

I started hunting private in the early 80's. Lease was $375 on the Garwood prairie. I joined a club last year it was $1100, but no ducks. I'm just going to pay Jeff or one of the others guides on here when they can get me in to a small group that will hunt with a stranger.

Thanks! Just depends on what part of the state you're in. Technically we have the most or second to most public duck hunting in continental US Up in north TX you have more public options then central but no where close to the 1000's of miles of public on the coast. Private has good and bad advantages. Private you have very limited water. Duck aren't there don't have a whole lot of options. Also little rough hunting same hole back to back days

Thanks for all the info! Wish I had some Maryland pics but the card with all the photos took a swim one duck hunt... Haha
I am located in Fort Worth, does anyone have any recommendations on public land or how to go about getting a lease?

Well if you were from eastern shore I could help you out. How do you pronounce water?? Haha, thats where I would usually hunt, out on the eastern shore across the bay bridge. I have family out in Annapolis, we all pronounce it "Werter" and "Warsh" hah. I don't have any oyster hook up.

Yep, hunted out there and near Tuchahoe state park I think it's called? Buddy of mine got a lottery to hunt it one year and we whacked some geese. Another friend of mine house a lake house in Denton.

Public but struggling with it. Scout every chance I get but have not got on the X yet. Have a pond a friend lets me hunt on. Always kill ducks there.
