I took off work the 5th through the 9th to go on a duck hunt at Texoma. We loaded up and headed down the road with visions of beautiful ducks cupping into our decoy spread. We got to about Cisco when the guide called and canceled. We were disappointed to say the least. I figured..,well I might as well hit the deer stand with this cold weather and the rut just starting to hit. I got up Friday morning and left an hour early because of the icy roads. I got in the stand about 5am and saw deer the entire time until I took a break at about 9:30. Drove down the road and ate a good bowl of chili and got back in the stand with my buddy at about 2pm. We were seeing a lot of deer moving and it just felt like it was going to be a good day. At about 4pm 3 doe walk down to the feeder and all looked back into the brush. Through the thick brush I could see a very big bodied deer but couldn't tell what he was. All the doe took off and ran back into the shinnery and I didn't know if I'd see them again. About 50 min later they all came back out with this big ten in hot pursuit. I took him at 225 yards with my 270. He's got giant body and not so bad horns to boot! One if the most fun hunts I've ever been on and very gratifying after hitting it hard for the last several weeks.
