Went up to Horseshoe Falls in Lampasas the last couple days to do some filming and hunt for this deer in particular. He had not been seen all season except on trail camera, so we hunted hard for him and finally got a crack at him at dusk last night. We had been rattling all afternoon with several bucks coming in, just not this guy. During the last couple hours of daylight we set up in a prone position on a trail that let to a protein feeder, just to see if he might come out. Sure enough he came out not long after we set down there. He was with a doe and she came across the clearing as he set back at the treeline to survey the situation before he crossed. He then decided to BOLT across the clearing, giving me no shot. They went into the woods on the other side, so we waited, then waited some more. It was getting cold too, real cold. We were both lying prone under a cedar tree trying to stay concealed and it was not the most comfortable position to be in for 1.5 hrs. Anyway, about last light the doe reappeared at the tree-line and we knew he would be right behind her. Sure enough he stepped out, and was a lot more calm this time around. I squeezed the trigger and dropped him from about 100 yds, sniper style! Gotta give a big thank you to Cole, who runs Horseshoe. He's on the forum here and is a really fun guy to hunt with. They have some really nice accommodations and a lot of animals. I saw some really nice axis and blackbuck while hunting for this deer, so if you're in the market for one of those, give him a call. I don't know if they do meat hunts or not but it looked like there were a bunch of axis and blackbuck does there ready to be stuffed in someone's freezer! This is a not-so-great iPhone pic, I'll try and upload some better ones laster when I drag them off the memory card of my other camera.
