I drove out from Florida to do a couple hunts in Texas, but the first hunt didn't work out well for me so I left early. The second hunt was to be at the Diamond S Ranch for a 150" ten point that Lance had advertised on this forum. I kind of just wanted to go home after the first hunt was a bust, but in speaking with Lance he said that he also had a clean 200" buck they wanted to harvest this year. He had posted on this forum for that buck as well. A few phone calls later I was headed to their ranch to hunt both bucks, and I am so glad I did.

I met Lance and Donnie, the owner, and several other friends and family when I arrived. I learned that this hunt was to be their first outfitted hunt on the ranch, but it actually felt like hunting with friends. The ranch is immaculate and well maintained and they have some absolutely unbelievable bucks. I didn't get to see the biggest which they expect to be well over 300", but I saw several great bucks. I was able to connect with both the 150" and 200" bucks that Lance wanted me to hunt, but their respective scores were much better than we expected. The 150 actually scored at 180" and the 200 scored 213 2/8 gross and 189 0/8 net typical which should be 4th place in the Texas Big Game Awards.

Many thanks to Lance (my guide), Donnie (ranch owner and world traveling highly accomplished hunter extraordinaire), Hunter (Donnie's son) and Jimmy (ranch hand) for a great hunt and the exceptional hospitality.

Why was the other one such a bust? Was it a bad outfitter or just Sheite happend?

I was hunting with the other outfitter for a 180-199, but he only had one that might have been in that range and he was busted. I'm not sure how to answer the question about bucking bulls. The cap they gave me is Diamond S Whitetails, but I suspect Lance will answer any questions.

Their posts and pictures were for a 150" and separate post for 200", not sure how to copy the links.

The smaller buck surprised everyone with his score. He is only a little over 15" wide, but has good mass, 7.5" brows, 11" and 12" G2's and G3's, and 9" G4's.

I truly couldn't be happier with this hunt.

When I got there, Lance decided to hunt over a food plot for the smaller buck hoping he would come in while we were there. No one on the ranch had seen him for almost two weeks. He hit a feeder before climbing into our tower box blind, about twenty minutes later we look over at the tree line and out steps a nice buck. We glassed him and Lance said that's him, just as he was saying that he thought he was going to be hard to hunt because he hadn't been coming out. My Blaser R8 in .30-06 reached out and touched him in the shoulder, and congratulations ensued.

After several minutes Lance asked if I wanted to try to find the bigger buck on another part of the ranch. I said sure, so he called on one of the hands to recover the first buck from the turnip food plot and we hurried over to another area. At quarter to dark he came in tending a doe, proved to be a fatal mistake.

Finished off the hunt with a delicious ribeye dinner and awesome story telling.

Young guy is Lance my guide and other gentleman is Donnie the ranch owner.

Nice, the pic with both bucks together makes the 180 look alot smaller.

I know, but other than being a tight rack he had very good mass and great tine length.

man, that first buck looks great and looks like a 175"+ deer in that first picture.... but that last picture of them together really gives you an idea of how big that 212" is.

Congrats on an awesome day. Great looking bucks
