I'm looking at some of the "low top" Bean boots. Are they as good as they say? I need a good boot that's waterproof, warm ( I'll put liners in them) and dependable. Anybody ever used LL Bean gear?

Yep, two pair over 40 years. Probably 15 years ago, I punctured the rubber in one. I sent the boots back and Bean put new bottoms on at no charge.

But understand, they're not entirely waterproof; they are water resistant, since they have leather uppers. And they're not super warm, since they have rubber bottoms.

But for hunting in snow with moderate climbing, the Maine Hunting Shoe is the best out there. I assume you're looking at northern climes, not Texas? That is, unless you hunt the Panhandle in late season or the mountains out in west Texas?

They will just be for around here (central Texas), when I need to get out in the mud either hunting or working. I have some GI boot liners to put in them. There is a second hand shop that has almost a brand new pair for $11. I figure for $11, it's worth a shot. And if I need the rubber replaced, looks like LLBean will take care of it. Thanks for the reply.

Anybody else?

For $11, I'd jump on them!

I bought them today.....for only $9.99. There is a "new" shop in town that sponsors a prison ministry and sells second hand items. They're a little big but once I put liners in them, I'm sure they'll be fine. The insoles have almost zero wear on them.

I have thee leather hiking boots. Second pair. Wouldn't think of buying another brand. Best bang for the buck. And they are comfortable.

My experience with Bean is different. I bought the Maine Hunting Shoes(high top boots). They cost somewhere over $100. I read all of the reviews. In 30 degree weather, sitting still hunting, my feet were freezing. Yeah, they have a liner. They have a soft sole so walking on rocks gave me sore feet. I left a one star review. In a couple of days, it was gone. I should have returned them but didn't. Never again.

I've used mine the past few days with the sub freezing temps and am satisfied....then again, I only paid $10 for them. It's just hard for me to spend $100 on a boot/shoe that I might wear a dozen times a year.
