Has anyone hunted this recently? Thinking about doing a Hog hunt out there sometime in January or February. Plan on doing some scouting in Later November/Early December and wondering if it would be worth my time.

Also if I do go out there where would be a good place to park?

There are a lot of hogs in the area around the camp ground on road 3810. They are also off of 3900 & 3905. You can park at the camp grounds or on the side of the road.

Referring to this map:

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/wma/images/ladonia.pdf

This summer I spent some time in sections 40 and 42 and never came across any signs of hogs. Section 48, though, backs up to the Sulphur River and looks more promising (for both hog and deer). BTW you'll need a truck to get to the entrance of 48. The dirt road dead ends there and it gets pretty rutted for the last half mile or so.

Thanks for the map. Section 51 is where I've seen hogs.

Just started visiting this area myself. Keep me posted if you put a hog hunt together. I've spent a little time in a couple of the units but nothing more than a couple of large, orange coyotes to speak of. I'll follow this thread and share anything of interest.

I've got everything in order to get out on public land (license / access permit came in the mail). Any interest in heading up there Saturday or Sunday a.m.? I've got in-laws visiting for the weekend, but if I can get out for at least half a day then I would be a happy man...

If not I'm around the following weekend as well.

I just realized that when I checked the weather out last night.

Looks like if I need to escape the in-laws (if their flights aren't cancelled) I'll be at Bass Pro or the Indoor Range "Christmas Shopping" this weekend...

Scouted 49 and 50 some last week, hunted near the pond on 49 last evening.

No tracks, scrapes, rubs, or droppings that I could see. The perimeter of the pond had been rooted pretty good by hogs at some point, but no other signs.

Did not see or hear a thing.

Both times went out there were other hunters in other units and did see a game warden yesterday.

You need to go to the west side and go back about a mile north of that pond in 49 to find hogs. They are all around where the WMA meets the creek. Good luck getting back there. It's a long hard hike. Don't try to drive on the road on the east side. You will never make it to the hill much less over the hill. The road is much worse on the backside. Don't believe me? Get out and try to walk it.

You mean go west of the gate and back a mile? If it is rough as you say thats a long way to drag a pig.

I walked in a good ways on the E side of that unit-went in near the S in the road and back following a trail. On the entrance side I did not much further than the pond. From what I hear its not too promising for deer.

Thanks for the info.
