I found one today that I really like. Have never shot one or heard much about them. I did a little research online and people say they are really good flat shooting guns. I wouldn't ever hunt anything bigger than a mule deer with it. What say y'all? Thanks.

It'll be a shooter. Get the right load worked up for it and never sell it or you'll be kicking yourself for quite a while

I think the .257wby is the ideal rifle for hunting country where shots might be point blank out to 500yds; such as what you may encounter with mule deer and Pronghorn.

I have killed MANY deer and hogs with a .257wby and I think it will do wonders for you; especially if you hunt some grounds where your shots can get on the far side.

I have personally killed whitetail at 500yds with mine; and from what I have seen I would suggest the 100gr Barnes TSX.

I couldn't imagine not having a 257 Roy. Were I told I could only have two hunting rifles it would be the 257 and of course it's big brother the 300. Love them Weatherby's. Two of the finest hunting calibers available.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

IMHO it is the finest cartridge in the market. Roy's as well. It is super fast, super flat, very very accurate and smacks em like the hammer of GOD.
I have shot a lot of loads out of my vanguard sporter and though the Barnes TSX is great, I think the 110gr Accubond is better. If you don't already, learn to reload or pay someone to do it because they ain't cheap to shoot. The last time I bought ammo, which was the 110gr AB's I spoke of they cost around $90 a box.
It will hammer just about any thing you can hunt in a Texas efficiently. I shot a red stag with mine two seasons ago off a ranch in Mason at about 235 yards and he never took a step.......DRT

My Dad tells a story about the 257 and this was back in the 40's. He came across a man who had two bull elk down out on 9 mile in the Blue Mountains of Oregon. He help him dress and hang them and in the process asked him where he shot them from. The man pointed to a spot up on the side of the mountain and dad on his way out found the spot he was talking about. There was to empty 257 cases about 600 yards from where the two bulls dropped.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

They shoot extremely flat and hit hard. I wouldn't hesitate to use mine on Elk sized critters with 100gr TTSX. Maybe that way, I'll actually recover a bullet.

I went in to get it a month or so ago after y'all talked me into it and they had sold it. They ordered me another one and I finally got it. Now I need to find ammo and choose a scope.

That is a good looking rifle. My dad shoots a 257 in a little kimber. He has shot it about five times this year and killed a ram and four pigs.

Just about every time I try to forget I want one, y'all remind me. I want that gun.

Is it weird that I want one in a heavier barrel though? To me, that would be the ultimate be all, end all rifle. A heavy barrel Remington 700 or Win 70 in 257 weatherby mag. Mmmmmmmm. All the ones I see are always sporter contour.

Jason, you get that at B&B? Saw one there a couple of weeks ago. I have a Zeiss 4.5-14 on my 257AI. They have one at B&B too
