I just picked up a lease in San Jacinto County and was wondering if anyone can tell me when the rut takes place. Everything I read states anytime from Oct. to the beginning of Nov. I made a couple of hunts on my property last week and shot a big doe that had a yearling with her. This doe still had milk. From my past experiances the Doe usually wean the yearling before breeding. Also I caught a few nice bucks on camera that look like there necks are fixing to pop. Just wondering if someone can help me figure this out. Thanks

Yeah, the rut already came and went around there. There is generally a strong secondary rut around there. Can't speak for the weaning of the yearling before breeding, but I am pretty sure the milk is just indicative of a doe that was bred late last year in the 2nd or later rut. Good luck out there.
