I have trouble with a feed call and can't quite perfect it. In y'all's opinions and experiences what's a good call that you can feed call pretty easily while blowing into the call lightly? Is a double reed better than a single reed for a feed chuckle?
Thanks!!
I don't always shoot deer, but when I do, I prefer B&C's. I don't always shoot ducks, but when I do, I prefer banded ducks.

You are probably trying to do the fast double feed, I hardly feed call around here. Singles are more responsive to feed. when I feed I just do single notes, tick, tick tick tick,... Anchor your tongue to the back of your bottom teeth and use the middle of your tongue to control the air flow in sharp burst. On stage I use the fast cut feed and rolling feed.

Rarely use a feed. Not much need for it. If I have another caller with me I'll do it to add to the appeal. But really not that important. Master the quack, greet, and comeback first. I use the feed most when I'm bored and no ducks are flying lol!

I love the feed call.....done right and in the right situation, it just pulls them right in. I will admit that minimum calling usually works best for me though

Feed call only works when your around shallow water, sheet water, timber and field situations. Normally if your hunting a pond or lake and you use a feed call your going to do more harm than good.
Few quacks and greeting calls normally does the trick.
To answer your question. Single reed works best for me. Not a huge double reed fan but there are some real good double reeds out there as well.

I am the same way, and to answer the question, I've noticed the double reed Quack shack outlaw requires very little air for a feed chuckle.

The so called " Feed Call" is in some cases a big misconception! Like G. Mallard, Ducks, and others have said is correct, First off, the Call or Sounds that some of us have heard Live or by vids which is the Rolling or machine gun sound is Not a feed call...... That is what Mallards do in flight and some have come to believe that it is what is now know as the " Formation" call. It's what you will hear when ducks are circling like bumble bees to get ready to line up and fall in. Also when ducks do actually feeding sounds it's is exactly that... It's a sound that ducks will make when they have Acorns, rice or anything else in their throat and they are trying to get down. They don't make that sound every bite they take , so to speak. So doing that sound which we call " Cuts" will help you if done at the right time, like when you know the boys are coming in to get a drink to help push food down,..... But don't cut too much !
So with that being said look for a call that is not bored out to much and has in it what is called Hold. Double or single don't matter and won't help as much as a call with A lot of Hold in it.

I agree with some of the above posts. The super fast feed call is not really necessary. I see people doing it just to be fancy.. I don't understand it though because that is the sound they make when they are flying. My hunting buddy and I have mixed opinions on this so he does his thing and I do mine. We still kill ducks so I dont see any end to our argument soon.

Single reed is easier, but like the above guys have said the fast feed is really not a feeding call at all. Used to do it regularly but more or less have given it up now for whatever reason. Never felt it did much for the ducks.

It seems to me no one has answered the TXbowhunters question. A good easy blowing call, and should he get a double or single...
Well TX this is a thread that can start a war on duck calls and whos better, but ill throw in my 2 cents and dodge rocks.
There are tons and tons of duck calls on the market at this point, Quack Shack, Echo, RNT, DC, Toxic, Elite, Zink and the list goes on. If you want something to last get Acrylic and spend the money on a call company that folks consider "reputable". Price range can usually determine who you buy from. On the single or double... Well sir thats all up to you. I love a solid single, but i have a double on one of my drops... If the blower behind the barrel can run a call, a feed can sound great through either. Good luck in searching and of course if you would like a Quack Shack, me, duksrus, and a few others on here can help. Good Luck

Thanks fellas! I just need to keep practicing saying Tik and Tikka into my call every day I suppose. Maybe its the current call I have but I was just seeing if there was that ONE call that takes little blowing so a feed call would be easier. And I don't plan on calling ducks with the MEGA fast feed chuckle!! lol

Ducks make the ticka ticka noise when flying. A true feed call is more of a ga ga gu gagaga ga
Get an easy to blow call like a haydel or a primos wench.

I exclusively do a feeding call when hunting. Quacks, greeting calls, hail calls, and comeback calls are all overrated. Straight competition style feeder call from the second I see them a mile away until I pull my gun up. As fast and as loud as I possibly can for 5 min. straight...
Or else I guess you could just add a few short cuts in like others have said. that might work too.
