How big is the cabin? Why don't you add insulation?

We have 2 solutions. A oil filled radiator and feather beds and down comforters. The radiator will take the chill off for a 20x20 cabin. Then just use the down comforters. Been toasty down to 20 degrees.

Thanks in advance for all info. Shane is the ceiling open rafters ? if it is insulate and sheet rock at least the ceiling , it will make a huge diference an old wood burning stove will churn out some heat.

We stayed in an un insulated wood frame cabin built in the 30's or 40's for years. A wood stove or propane heater was more than enough to keep the chill out and it had exposed rafters as well. I bet yal got some bad drafts!

For the first 18 years on my life we had propane heaters. I have one in my cabin now. It is not insulated and it heats it good.

our cabin is a two room cabin, bathroom and then just the big main room....we run to electic heaters and it is perfect. i will say it is insulated very good so that helps but usually by 10 pm we are turning the heat down...

we use what I would call a patio heater, tank sits in the base heater is on top like an umbrella. Works GREAT!

Are you keeping your electric heaters on the floor? My hunting buddy made the mistake of keeping his on the night stand beside his bed last year and he said it didn't work worth a darn.... until I told him it was because it was only heating the air above the heater. First night he put it on the floor he really felt stupid...heated his whole room efficiently then.
Previously, he would wake up freezing and literally grab the heater and put it in his bed... then he would wake up frying hot and, typically, throwup all over the place. I am the unlucky guy that wakes all the hunters up every morning. Walking in his trailer and getting hit with puke smell... he didn't hunt many mornings.

If you can obtain wood in your area at a reasonable price then an old fashioned wood stove is the BEST. Lot's of folks are familiar with a pot belly or a Scandinavian Box soap stone style but what I'm taking about is the kind grandma used. A big son of a gun with 4 burners on top and a reservior for hot water to soak the dishes. With such a stove you have hot water available all the time and you both cook on it and heat up the place. You might have to get up once during the night to restock the wood. The other option is to cook with a coleman type stove and just get a potbelly. You can also burn coal in a potbelly but you need to keep a window open, etc.

This is the best electric heater I've found. It gets really hot and the fan will move a lot of air.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

When using gas of any type, just be sure you got circulation, gas detectors etc... It would be a shame to miss the next mornings hunt for ever!

I used a wood stove for several years and it is the best. It will flat heat up a place and you regulate the heat by either putting on more wood or less wood. You can cook on it to. A dearborn gas heater running on propane is very good also. Electric not near as good as these 2 options.

But if the camp house is as drafty as you say, a double-burner Mr. Buddy on a 5-gallon propane tank will soon have you sleeping on top of the covers in your undies. Harbor Freight has a knock-off copycat unit that works pretty well, IME. I use one when working in my barn in the winter.

You can also burn coal in a potbelly but you need to keep a window open, etc. This sounds like a great idea. We have electric stoves in our bedrooms. But in the great room we've got the old faithful "Vogelzang" cast iron stove. It keeps our house TOASTY. just need to have firewood available, which we do. IF you use a propane heater just be cautious. They quickly deplete the oxygen in a room and replace it with carbon monoxide, eventually causing death.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.
