I'm considering heading up to the Panhandle sometime in the next 3 weeks to do a guided hunt for ducks, geese, and cranes. I'm a little hesitant though because I'm hearing they are in a terrible drought and the playa lakes don't have any water.
Anybody know if there's any surface water left up there? Does it even matter?

Go ahead a go. You might have some duck problems, but the geese and sandhill crane populations are off the chart. More grain this year. I've used Black Sky Outfitters before. They are an excellent hunting operation. Always find birds. I think the advertise on this site where you can find there number.

Yep, you will be fine for the cranes and geese. Especially the geese since most of them roost on lakes in town that will not dry up and feed yard lakes.
I'm with GK because I like salty old dudes.

In Amherst now, tons of cranes. No water at all to speak of, all the playas that had water earlier are all dry, drove 100 miles today scoutin found 5 wigeons and a few spoonies. Garbage. Last year this time we whacked the greenheads and lessers but there was water
