Most people try to "hide around the fact" because of the comments that certain donkeys on this forum make simply because it was behind a HF. back

Agreed there there are some people that are extremely negative towards high fence. I am not if that floats your boat then go for it. But it is just nice when you see a deer like that to know was something that is actually going in the books or not? Not taking anything away form any hunter that hunts high fence as stated above.

I hunt that general area and want to know an answer to the HF/LF question simply to hear if there is a chance that genetics like that are free to roam the brush in the area I hunt.

To the OP, congrats on a great deer!!!

That's what they say, anyway. But in this case the man did give the ranch name when asked-so I suppose you could look it up.

P.S. His specific emphasis on the location taken does at least lead to the HF/LF inquiry, because as pointed out location matters for LF only. (IMO location emphasis implies LF)

That's a giant deer. I think it goes left unsaid if it was HF or not why argue about it.

That is a pretty legit animal- high fence or not high fence- it is still a trophy to be proud of and an experience of a lifetime.

All i hope is he had someone to share the awesome experience with.

Why the heck does it matter if it is going in "the books"??? It matters to YOU. It doesn't matter to me nor does it matter to the hunter. Nor does it matter to most hunters. Just donkeys who can never be happy for others.

Congratulations on the trophy of a lifetime OP. Low fence, high fence, pen raised or native genetics. I appreciate big deer wherever they come from!

Not that it matters but there have been a couple 200 deer shot within 40miles of brownwood LF. One was posted on THF, then deleted because of BS, and reappeared on cover if TTHA with full story. So the genetics are there for it to be a Native deer

Great buck! up

2009 non-typical shot in Thrifty (15 miles from Brownwood) on I think less than 20 acres. It's about 15 miles from my little basket 8 Coleman County suckers, but it does give me hope!

The reason it matters is because ANYONE with the money can kill a buck like this. There is no accomplishment....write check....shoot deer.

Not really a buck of a lifetime when you can go buy one just like him tomorrow.

"My friend" for one I have a great career and probably more successful than can know. So let's not get on a money debate. I have killed exotics on "high fence" but whitetails no. But once again I am not against it but that's not my cup of tea. That is a great deer and I am not taking anything away from you for killing that deer. It is just a fact if you choose to cut a check you can kill a 200" deer. (Tomorrow) my god everyone has turned this into a OMG I can't believe he said that when all I said is if you have the money you can kill big deer. I choose to take my money to the Midwest where if I killed one it was free ranging and legit.

Thanks again..

In my opinion.....a HF 5000acre ranch is a whole different ball game than shooting a deer like this on 300acres! there is zero guarantee that you will see anything much less a deer like this on 5000acres! further more, 5000acres that is high fenced is just a well managed property, not a little pen with deer that have no where to go.

Sweet deer man! congrats!!

Everyone is aware of what you said. Thing is, it wasn't necessary, and it was tacky. I understand what you're saying, and there is a time and place to discuss it. Most of us feel that threads like these are neither.
