TC Encore Endeavor .50 cal with a Nikon 3x9 scope...it's a lot of fun to hunt deer with a muzzleloader...the pure single shot.

I've been hunting the last several years with my single shot 45-70.

I reload with 405 grain flat nosed jacketed bullets and it shoots 1" cloverleafs at 100 yards.

I don't have to track the deer if only a few feet, and contrary to popular belief, the meat isn't ruined like a little fast bullet will turn a deer to mush. Not so with the 45-70, it's like a hammer.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I was carrying mine this weekend! Although I didn't fire a shot this time out, I believe that 200gr from a 35rem at a hundred is a pretty good hammer.....so far it's worked every time! DRT

My .270 did fine at 30 yards last year! Lol. Her heart was hanging out the exit hole but she didn't mind. She was dead!

.222 rem with 55gr lapua soft-points. I know that's not what people like to hear, but it puts em down just as good as my 30-06. I always got 18"+ penetration and when it exited(most of the time) I got a 1.5" exit wound. Good enough for me.

30-30, my truck gun for crusing around the lease. I've shot a couple Doe with Ruger Blackhawk 357mag upto 50yrds, perfect for when the arrow wont fly thru the brush. but 30.06 is my goto in the blind for any distance on my lease.

by far the best round for hunting in Texas is a .243 100gr. you can go to a 70gr. for varmint hunting and the lower grain will tighten your group on target. the 243 is by far the best round for 200 less yards, it will drop em dead and save your meat.

To think it was won in auction 50 years ago for .10 cents. laugh

Funny thing.. My grandpa won a marlin 336 in .35 rem in a shooting match and gave it to me 30 years ago. I shot my first deer with it before it was stolen from my house. Luckily being from a very small town, word got around it was easy to track down. My step dad was able to buy it several years later from the guy who the thief sold it too and he returned it to me as a gift 3 years ago with 7 boxes of ammo. I put a cheap simmons scope on it and it will shoot less than 1-inch group at 100yds. It also knocks down what ever it hits, deer, pig or otherwise.
