Sure to get a pot stirring on this. Why do some hunters "strategically" place their deer antlers in the bed of their truck so the horns and hoofs are there for all to see? I see it most on opening weekend and Thanksgiving weekend. What is anyone gonna say as you are traveling down the highway at 70 mph? Oh wow, nice rack! Then wife slaps you you. Seriously, what's the point?

Here's what is worse. Someone has a whole deer with the skin still on in the trailer or on top of a 4 wheeler, in 64* weather. That's gonna be some good meat.

My wife must be a cross between a Indian and a bulldog. When she's not on the warpath, she's sitting on her butt growling.

My grand dad actually did show his buck off on purpose. 8 years ago he shot the biggest deer he has ever shot in 50 plus years of deer hunting a 10 point buck with a 25 3/8 inside spread. Scored 152 i believe. When we where helping him pack his truck up on Sunday. He said put the buck on top of everything i want every one to see him.. I think he was just really proud of what he had finally got after all those years of hunting.. Little did he know that showing that buck off like that got him pulled over on the side of the road right by ranger hill by a game warden. GW searched his entire truck, guns etc.. Then shook his hand and said that's a hell of a buck.. I dont think that is the attention he thought he would get by having the antlers showing lol

yes it is. Don't see too many flat beds with deer though. I am talking about regular pickup beds.

Keep it to topic. Not cows. Talking about hunters showing their "prowess" with PDA. Show it off at deer camp with your friends. Does anybody else really care?

I don't intentionally expose my deer. However, I feel a sense of happiness when my truck is bloody and muddy!!

In the bed with the tailgate up, we have too much other stuff to let the tailgate down.

I have no problem with it. Some folks are proud of their trophy and I happened to like seeing the nice deer on the ride home today. I think they should keep it clean, but nothing wrong some antlers displayed. I put it in the bed with the gate closed, but I am not going to make an extra effort to make sure you can't see the antlers.

And frankly, I could give a rats --- what some tree hugger driving down the highway thinks about me hunting and don't make an effort to hide what I enjoy, but I am not going to make an effort to rub it in.

Don't disagree. But my OP was about guys who take the effort to make sure everyone and their grandma sees their "trophy" by making sure it is visible. I guess it is just to stroke ego. Forget the tree hungers, that was not even a consideration. This is a hunter related question.

I recently noticed the top of a rack that looked as if the hunter had just put the head of his buck in his truck bed without any true intention of making it obvious. There was also an ice chest that was more visible than the rack. I don't have an issue when the antlers appear not have been placed to show them off, nor to hide them.

In some states large wild game animals must be transported in the open so that LEO's can more easily check them. Hunters will be fined if they are found to be transporting game that is hidden from view.

Tree huggers always come up in these discussions and how "we" look to them (like the cows). Just putting it out there up

I agree for the most part with you then. Have no desire to prop my buck up or stack things so they can easily be seen. Don't necessarily have a problem if someone does though. There are times I have had the antlers above the tailgate because I was hauling too many deer and other luggage. Plus, with the shorter beds in the new trucks, they don't always fit real well.

funny thing is the guys who are driving a crew cab with the back seat empty. Luggage, gear stowed there. Oh well, I guess I am stirring the pot too much. Each to their own. Just be classy out there.

Try it in a crew cab hauling 2 deer and an 18 month old, 4 year old and a 5 year old...you know how much crap they need for 3 days???

Just curious though, what exactly bothers you about it? That they are showing off?

Personally not something I've ever intentionally done but hard for me to think too much about what others decide to do with their deer. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

It never bothered me, in fact I like seeing what they got. Heck they're proud enough to not hide it so ill give a thumbs up if I can, which almost never happens. Someone's trash is another's treasure. To me, it's the same as someone posting a pic of their first spike or doe on here, really it isn't a trophy, but to them it is. As long as there's not a bloody mess hanging out of the truck and you can see the rack, that's 'classy' enough for me.

Just ask for all sausage when you get to the processor and you won't have to worry about getting your deer back.
Oh wait..... What about the guy that had his deer out in 75deg weather in full sun all day. eeks333

#1 reason I process my deer, myself. clap

Show them to me. I want to enjoy your success too. I followed two guys home from Missouri a few years ago. One had a monster whitetail and the other a sizable muley. The heads were on top of the gear. I took pics as I was driving. There's nothing wrong with it imo. But if it's warm it's not good for the meat or the cape.

Doesn't bother me, I give them a thumbs up when I pass and a lot of the times it's a kid who has shot the deer. He's proud and has every right to be.

I don't really care how my deer sit in my pickup, or anyone else's, either.

I have more important things to get wound up about.
