Without getting into the whole story... I shot at a buck and missed tonight (I was a dumb@$$). He ran off with the doe he was chasing. This buck didn't show up until thanksgiving day (first pics of him).

What are the hard core darn honest truth and reality that he may actually come back out for another shot?

If its slim to none, I need to know to just move on and get my meat deer instead of holding out...

My wife shot her first buck about 30 minutes after she shot at and missed him. He went into the woods chasing a hot doe and came back to give her another shot; she didn't miss twice.

He doesn't even know you shot at him, too focused on his gal.

It is the rut. He may or ma not be back. It is also huning season and there are no guarantees that someone else may not shoot it.
After opening weekend you should never pass on a legal buck just to wait on a dream deer unless you are strictly Mount / Antler Hunting.

You have a chance to see him just like you have a chance of not seeing him again. You just never know. I've previously missed a buck to shoot him the next day on more than one occasion.

That's what I was hoping. I'm just so dang mad (PI$$ED moreover) at myself for missing like I did. I know better than to rush the shot but everything happened so fast. If I could actually beat my own @$$ I would...

He will be back. My daughter shot an 8 pt management buck while a nice 10 was 30 yds away from our blind holed up in the brush with a doe ready to breed. He was back at the feeder the next day.

I sure hope he comes back. He's not a record book or a monster but he'd dang sure be my first wall hanger for the 20 or so years I've been hunting.

You just have to hope for the best, you never know how they react during the rut.

She's been around all year long. She's kinda a pet as I see her almost everyday and have been getting pics of her and her yearling for almost 6 months now.

if he's locked up with a doe from your area, you might well get another chance at him. Keep hunting that area for now.

Good luck. He may or may not be back. We had a 20" 10 point that was spotted on camera a couple of weeks ago. A neighbor over a mile away ended up shooting him. At least he's chasing a doe that lives on your place.

LOL,
I just watched Fight Club last night here in the camper, and Edward Norton did a fine job of beating his own a$$.

Has to say.

Good luck

I brought my cousin to our hill country lease several years back for his first deer hunt. He shot at a good 8 point the first morning and missed. The very next morning the exact same buck came back and he got him!

Bottom line: if it was a clean miss and the buck frequents your area, there's a good chance he'll be back.
