a nice South Texas 8 pt.(Zapata/Webb county line) on Wed. morning. Old boy (aged at 5.5 yo) showed up on corned sendero at 7:55AM with 4 doe already there. Early on determining that he was a fully mature 8, I decided to unload on him. Unfortunately he had other thoughts and proceeded to harass the does around for about 10 minutes or so. Anyhow once he had run off the does and decided to come back to the sendero, I proceeded to take the shot at 125 yards, high behind the shoulder. The Winchester M-70, .30-.06 featheweight rang true and the buck anchored right there with one or two leg kicks only. Fun part of the hunt was that I got to share it with my 75 year old Pops. Unfortunately he missed a 225 yard shot on a 12pt. that same morning from a different blind. Processor/Taxi estimated my 8's score at 130-135.   [/quote]

Thanks guys, first deer I had taken down there in 4-5 seasons. To see the buck trying to run does in late Nov. down there was very unusual but the weather was in the mid-40s to lower 50s so I guess it can happen earlier..

I like the 1st photos, but all the photos sure do show how symmetrical he is. Doesn't look like there is more than a 2-3" difference.

And most of all, congrats on getting to share the experience with your dad. It's those little things, like having Pops along, that make a special hunt.
So she says "sure Honey, I agree, you DO need a new deer rifle..." And that, boys, is how I ended up with new living room furniture!
