Panty hose do a great job on the lower end to help keep warm. Sounds silly, but been doin it for years in extreme cold.

I always try to acclimate my body before winter seasons. I try to wear as little clothes as possible when it is still bearable. I was wearing shorts and a long sleeve T this weekend when it was in the 40's and was asked what the hell I was doing. I told my buddy I was getting ready for deer season and he kind of gave me a crazy look, but it works. Getting used to it is the only way you will really be comfortable. Your body is an amazing tool, let it adapt to the conditions instead of trying to hide from them. that's it right there.. thats what we do at work. Just came back from the field today. Basically you just shiver and try not to die lol. But on the real, acclimatize yourself. Best way.

Thermacell heated foot soles for when you are not moving. Start with Merino wool (real stuff, not fake) baselayer. A good glassing pant with water proof seat and padded knees (Like the Sitka Timberline pant). I like a puffy (easy to pack away) soft shell for mid layer. Then a good jacket that is water proof. Last thing I through in is a waterproof bottom that is water proof, over sized and light (AGO pants). Make sure to bring a couple pairs of socks to change out between sits and don't skimp on boots either. When you are sitting a glassing, all should be on. When moving the water proof pants and soft shell should be removed. Forgot to mention I always bring a nice hoodie as well (just in case).
I know good gear is very expensive (just like good glass), but it will make your hunt a lot more comfortable.

I wear 80 percent wool, 20 percent polyester longjohns as a base layer. Then a wool shirt and a sweatshirt. And my Artic Armor coat. It will keep you warm to 50 below 0. I have goretex waterproof insulated rocky mountain hunting boots with a 1000 grams of insultex. Artic Armor gloves. If there is anything better than Artic Armor, I want to see it. I wear Arctic Armor also and I agree. I wear it on Tawokini and Cooper in the coldest part of the year. Never have got cold under that stuff.

Not sure what they are called. You can find them in military surplus store. The are a chemical warmer that you but in an aluminum can thing. The can I found in a store in Austin for like $5 and refills of the chemical pouch thing were like $3.
It would not be great in a deer blind. Maybe when not dealing with such a sensitive sense of smell. Never used them before but I would think anything like that would give off a pretty strong scent.

Just had a conversation with my father regarding this, and in particular, keeping feet warm. I keepforgetting that he was stationed in Alaska for 6 years and did ALLOT of training in the arctic circle. He recommends getting you a set of GI ISSUE "bunny boots". I found them in white and black on ebay fairly cheap. Just make sure you get the liners as well. These boots inflate, btw. Anyways, my dad performed missions in temperatures as low as -40F where your pee freezes before it hits the ground Not sure if I believe that one, but they kept his feet warm in the coldest weather imaginable. He brought this up because I was talking about spending 100 or so bucks on those thermacell insoles and he kinda flipped out on the price of them and said I should have just gotten these bunny boots. My father is darn sure no hunter, but he darn sure knows his cold weather gear and how to survive in it. Couple traits I tend to forget he has since we are so different.

Bunny boots sound very interesting! Now to find them in colors other than white... Freezing urine.... A urine stream can freeze in the cold of winter. Busted When tested in a freezer at −70 °F (−57 °C) the fake urine stream the MythBusters used did not freeze in midair. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MythBusters_(2004_season)

Bunny boots are great, but the problem is you still have the rest of the body to keep warm. We had the GI issue parkas, gloves, etc., but I can guarantee that you will still get cold. The bunny boots also weren't made for walking rough terrain, you have to be in top notch shape to go very far before you are ready to drop.

Yes, he mentioned that they were huge and at first, cumbersome, but "you grow to love and depend on them". But apparently if you hop in your C130 and take off without deflating them, they'll darn near pinch off your lower leg, lol. Also, looks like the "bunny boots" are all white. These are all my father knew of, due to his environment, but the black ones are apparently called "mickey mouse boots". Makes sense I guess... http://www.amazon.com/Extreme-Weather-Waterproof-U-S-Military/dp/B004ZCW8UO

Hunt from the "mobile blind", cooler, heater, radio, nice comfy seats. Yummy. That's actually what I've been doing... even camping in the truck currently. Camper is trashed and I havent had time to get it cleaned up. Truck never turned off last weekend until I got home. Been finding the biggest cedar I can find and just barreling it in there for cover. This has been my "blind". Took me almost 15 minutes to get out of it last Sunday though. Entire left side is bruised up from trying to break open the door. Had 2 inches of ice accumulation overnight, even with the truck running and warm... opening the door wasnt gonna happen. Heck, it took almost an hour to break into my icechest for a bottle of water. HATE ICE
