I am looking for a Whitetail hunt to get my first Texas Whitetail. I found a hunt just West of Austin for $400 it is a low fence. Was wondering if this is a ok price? Been in tx for almost 2 years and getting the itch but not a $1000 itch.

Is that all inclusive? Or are they going to charge you a trophy fee too?

Doesn't sound bad.. How long is the hunt, are you allowed to shoot any deer you want?

How large is the place? How many hunters they going to take this year? How many deer they take per year? They give you any references?

Sounds like this is just a farmer with some deer on his land. Guess I have more questions for him. Being new to Texas hunting and wanting to shot a Damn WT Buck has me running around with my head cut off. That is why I come to you all for help with these things. God I miss just going in the woods and shooting a deer.

Just make sure it's not that well known dayleaser from San Marcos. Can't recall his name but been much written on here about his operation or more correctly lack of an operation.

How did you find this hunt? Friend? Craig's List? News paper?

Plenty of scammers on Craigslist. Id be careful with a place offering a buck for $400.

Ok thanks. Just got a email from the guy. He says you pay the $400 upfront for the day and he keeps the money kill or no kill. Did not answer any other questions. So not going to go any further with this guy.

It is best to stay away from day leases this far into the season. if you do one do it the first week. It should not be that difficult finding a place that will guarantee you a buck. How much you are willing to spend will dictate the size of the deer you are going to get.

You can do that here too. There are hundreds of thousands of acres of Corp of Engineer, timber company, national forests, etc all around Texas. Just do a little research. I'm sure whereever you are originally from there is plenty of private property too that you can't just park on the side of the road and start hunting.

Hey Scott-
you should check out Maine, property rights are pretty sweet. We have a good chunk of property up in way north Maine and basically as long as there are no signs a hunter may enter a property and hunt. You could literally get out of your truck and head into the woods. I don't think you could set up a stand for a period of time on someones property but still, pretty darn unique in comparison to TX.

However there is no baiting. We would pretty much hangout near apple trees and meadows.
