Good morning. My wife and I are still hoping to be able to relocate to central Texas, and I saw several properties for sale around Anson and Hawley. We looked around that area when we were there last march and there was a lot of sand burs and very little for food plots and such. How are the deer and hog hunting opportunities in that area? Land in that area is generally a lot less than other areas. We would like to get a small acreage for hunting with a house and hopefully a shop area. We really liked it around Coleman.

I don't hunt there, but my buddy does. He and the processor both say its been a very good year for hogs and an ok year for deer. Tons of cultivation and agriculture around Jones County. Lots of stickers(sand burs) around that area. Its something you'll have to contend with. I hate those things.

There are some areas around there that are excellent, which specific areas are you interested in. A few miles makes a big difference in that area.

If there is sand, there are grass burrs.

Were just considering options in general. Maybe we'll need to come back in the spring again to get a closer look. We're anxious to get closer to some hunting and fishing than what we have available here in New Mexico.

Come to Albany. Great town, great deer, no sand burrs.
Send me a PM if you come out I'll show you around.
35 miles from Anson.

That is kind of the idea. Far enough from Abilene not to be a part of the problem, yet close enough to be a part of the solution.

Great hunting around there, as well as having one of only two nice lakes around...Hubbard and O.H. Ivey.

There is not much for land around Albany but there are some houses for sale. I'd like to get about 10 acres or more with a house.

Yep the problem with Albany is you never find land in small parcels like 10 or 20 acres.
Best thing to do would be to call Clear Fork Real estate and get them to call you.

Look towards Ballinger and Winters. Close enough to Abilene and San Angelo but still small town location.

The shinnery south of Anson and Hawley toward Merkel has some big deer. Lots of hogs. Good turkey and quail in good years.

this is very true.
Before we bought we looked at a few places in Jones county and I just didn't want that much sand
