If I will be using it again the following day or two I will just remove the primer, otherwise I pull the breech plug and remove the powder charge.

If it's cold out do not take it back into the house or any other warm place. Leave it in your truck or garage. If you take it from cold to warm it will sweat and your powder will draw moisture and it will be done for. I have gone all season and not unloaded mine until the end. Never has failed to go off.

i leave mine in the truck when i get back to camp for the exact same reason Catwhacker just noted.
We have a camper and at night we run a heater. the windows sweat and they fog up. it wreaks havoc on powder. If it is humid the day i hunt I switch it out between hunts. better safe than sorry considering I would not want to pull the trigger just to see a primer smoke off.

You have to be careful not to dbl charge a muzzle loader when leaving it loaded. I got the bug about 35 yrs ago and built several. It was fun but very time consumer. These new in line weapons are safer more accurate and easier to clean

just to second what everyone else said. pull primer and keep in same temp or else sweating occurs which isnt good on powder or the muzzies barrels. If you have to carry it back inside the remove primer, pull breech, pour out pellets or powder and push bullet/sabot out of breech (it should push through as easy as it was going down). many people get to tight of a bullet sabot combo. it should fit firmly but should not require both hands to push down - oh and watch the end of your hand when puching the bullet/sabbot out of barrel. when it come out you can really pinch the crap out of your hand. and be careful not to screw up threads where breach plug goes. They make co2 kits designed to blow out the bullets - never tried that but worth a shot,

I only shoot caplocks and use the Safe-N-Dry Kap Kover to protect the nipple, cap and powder charge. If I am going to leave my rifle loaded, I simply pop it on, place the rifle in a case and leave it outside.

Good question. If I'm going out later that day or the next day I'll just remove the primer. If I'm done for awhile, I'll discharge the weapon in a safe area.

Definitely remove the primer. That thing will kill you just as dead as a center fire. There is a little device that can be placed over the business end of the barrel to prevent moisture from entering, a small baloon works just as well and is much less expensive. b

Standard warning- on a loaded muzzle loader- put the ramrod in the bore before casing the gun.

CO2 unloaders are worth the money. Don't use it often but irreplaceable when I need it

Those CO2 are worth their money but work best with a side lock. If you are shooting shockwaves or some other bullet that costs $3 a piece- and- hunting the next day, I'd just take off the cap. And, as I said, put the ramrod in the bore. Let's say you are in an auto accident on the way home and you go to the hospital while someone else takes the gun out of the vehicle- that ramrod in the bore is a flag- most folks will suspect the gun might have a charge in it.

To law enforcement and game wardens removing the primer is considered unloaded and is safe

Don't need to remove it before shooting- the rush of air from the powder going off just pops that little sucker right off.

I heard a piece of clear tape over the muzzle gets blown out of the way and doesn't adversely effect accuracy. The tape does more than keep out rain, lean the gun against a tree and bits of bark, etc could fall down the bore.

Yes balloon works butt if u keep ur powder dry on the off season you will be fine also who plans on hunting in rain so there is no need for a balloon also why set ur gun against a treebthats what slings are for and lastlt the guns are made to be thrown in a puddle and fire perfectly I know this first hand I killed my big big this year after dropping in in the pond and fired flawlessly ( inline tc omega 250 gr tc shockwave cci 209 primer 100 gr tripple 7 powder).

Percussion cap or musket cap...I have left my TC White Mountain Carbine loaded for a year (percussion cap removed) and it has never failed to fire. I use 70 grains FFG Goex BP and a tight patched .490" round ball...my son has left his TC Black Mountain Magnum loaded for a year (musket cap removed) he unscrews the nipple and drops a little BP in the flash channel and then fires...difference is he uses 3 50 grain Pyrodex pellets and a sabot 44 caliber 240 grain jacketed hollow point...
