Anyone use a Mr. buddy type heater in the bow blind? Does it give off any odor or sound that would affect the hunt?

I dont know what we're put on this earth to do but we're here damn it!

I've used mine for a couple of years with no problem. Only when lighting the pilot would it be noisy enough to be an issue.

They ok, Ive had issues with them keeping a area warm in subzero temps as the ones Ive had just don't have enough BTU's.

I tried using one one time in a bow blind. I think the odor spooked off several deer that came in. I have never used one since.

I think they def have a odor, but they sure are nice too have. Warm up the pop up or box blind quite well.

there is no doubt they have an odor - I can smell it myself.

I guess if the wind is just right they would work in a pop up blind. I just don't care to chance it again.

The odor is from an additive to the propane which has a garlic smell. It is there to warn you of a gas leak. It does not smell when the propane is burning with a proper air/gas mixture. You may have a gas leak causing the smell. I have used one in my box stand for years with none of the issues described above. If it is not keeping your blind warm enough then get one with a higher BTU rating. I have two that I use, one that works well when temps are between 30 and 40 degrees and one for sub 30 degrees. I also have added insulation to the blind and closed up all gaps around the windows and door. That helped more than anything else.

I now have a new best friend in the blind :-)
But the blind is a rifle blind not sure I'd use it in a bow blind
mostly since its hot when bow season in

I would say there probably is some odor. But I use a great cover scent and it hasn't hurt me that I know of which means I haven't heard them snort and run off due to it. I only use it on days like this one though.

If the deer can smell it, they can smell you. If they run, I would place a wager that they are more afraid of you than they are Mr. Buddy...

First time I took my son hunting he was only 7 yrs old. The elevated box blind had a Mr Buddy heater in it. Air temp was about 29, light breeze. Kept 3 of the 4 windows closed, they had plexiglass so I could still see thru them. Son said he was a little cold so I turned it on. 15 min later my son was sound asleep, lol. I say use it if you got it and need it. Not sure I would bow hunting since you have to get so close to the deer but rifle hunting was fine.

I would never use one. This is what happened to my Buddy's Mr. Buddy a couple of weeks ago in his deer blind.

Wrong kind of boom in a deer blind. Give me something that is electric that runs on a battery that I can hook to a solar panel.

Maybe a better question would be "Does it produce an odor that spooks deer?". Human urine definitely has an odor but after watching many deer check it out, I have never seen one spook. YMMV

Thanks for the insight, just may suck it up and not worry about being warm.

I've used "buddy" heaters as well as the standard coleman fuel heaters in box blinds.

One thing about the standard coleman heater though... I melted a VERY nice pair of Cabelas extreme fleece bibs. Didn't notice until I smelt it. Too late then.
