If you shoot a young deer because a neighbor will shoot it, you are that neighbor.

4.5, those teeth are awfully pointy to be much older. I would have to agree, too much wear on the second molars to call it a 3.5 IMO....looked different on the phone

4.5 yr old but would not argue 5.5 much. If he is a protein fed deer then I will call him a 5 yr old.

Deer was shot in Lometa, Tx in Lampasas County. Now that you've aged the jawbone, see if a picture of the deer sways your opinion. Posted it on another board and got anywhere from 2.5-5.5. The deer is 16" wide for reference. And just so the debate doesn't get crazy, this place was high fenced last year and they are in the process of shooting the native deer that were left on it after the place was fenced. Once they do this, they will introduce their herd that they will have bred and whatnot. Will eventually be an outfitter. They've shot so many deer off this place I actually saw more deer outside of the fence while hunting than I did inside. It's a 3300 acre place.

If corn or grain fed or acorn fed, I'd say 3.5 to 4.5.
If not, I'd say 4.5 to 5.5.

They told me bring as much mo as possible because we were to shoot whatever we saw since they're trying to get it ready for their breeding program. I had half a box of the ammo I usually shoot and needed more for the trip. So I have what I had left of that box (yellow tipped), plus 1 new cartridge of the "newer" version of that bullet (silver cartridge). The non ballistic tipped shells I had from a while back were for any pigs I saw. I can't justify shooting shells that are 50/box at a pig.

3.5 or 4.5. An easy way you determine age from the jawbone for beginners is to run your finger along the teeth. count the teeth that are smooth until you feel the first jagged one. It looks like you have 3 smooth teeth, then they get sharp at 4. This would indicate a 3.5 year old deer.
Its not a full proof method, but its a quick and easy reference that will get you in the ball park.
I like spoonie, his humor is dryer than my duck lease.
