I believe since you are from out of state you have to go the an FFL but someone who knows for sure will chime in shortly I am sure

I know you can buy a long gun in bordering states I just dont know if it must be from an ffl. Worst case is you have him meet you at a gun store for a ftf transfer through an ffl. Call around before you choose an ffl sone charge $50 and some only $15

In Missouri you can sell a long gun (rifle or shotgun- as long as legal here) to a resident of any State (their responsibility to insure the firearm is legal in their State) that has a border physically touching. But highly recommended that you give a written Bill of Sale with both the buyers and sellers DL numbers. No FFL needs to be involved

Per the ATF FAQ, you must go through a licensed dealer to obtain a firearm from an out of state source. An unlicensed person can only transfer a firearm to another unlicensed person who resides in the same state. The touching border rule used to apply to licensed dealers and who they could sell a long gun to, but it appears that may have changed where the dealer can sell to anyone,as long as the sale would be legal in both states.

Cover all metal parts of the firearm liberally with oil (grease might be better) before wrapping it in plastic, then put...

Wait. I thought the title said BURYING a gun in Texas. My bad. Carry on.
