Anybody have any advice on hunting quail here? Really interested if I need boots on the dog for stickers/cactus and, without giving away any secrets, is it worth the drive up there for some bob's?
Thanks

I’ve hunted deer there a few times and haven’t run in to anything that would require you to put boots on the dogs. Half the place is a mixture of hardwoods and grasses, the other half is sandy hills with grass. I never saw a cactus, or had any problems with stickers/burs.
I haven’t seen any quail there, but it sure is covered in turkeys

I hunted there with a buddy many years ago on a cool foggy November day. Hunted in bottom and found nothing. Climbed the steep bank of river to get on top and buddy placed hand right next to coiled but sluggish rattlesnake. If I hadn't already made it to top to warn him he would have raised up and been face to face with the rattler. I warned him and he went around. Needless to say snake didn't make it. Only got a few quail that day.

Thanks TxDiver and orpco for the advice. I've got a week off in Dec. and I think the dog and I are gonna check it out. I would go to Matador since its closer but it's closed to quail hunting then.
