A buddy of mine dropped his rifle and the bolt handle broke off. Now he can't get it open, anyone have an idea how to get the bolt out?

I carry a gun because I'm too young to die, and too old to take a whoopin!

I'd take it to a gunsmith to get the bolt open, then send the whole thing back to Remington, sell it when I got it back and then never buy another Remington.

Kind regards, charlesb

The Rem 710 is a piece of junk and has been vilified on every hunting forum in the world. I wouldn't spend one dollar on it. Even if Remington fixes it for free, the gun isn't worth the shipping cost to send it in.

Tell your friend to get on with his life and consider himself lucky that the 710 didn't
leave him in the lurch at a critical moment in a hunt.......as one did to a Michigan buddy of mine when his 710 failed to cycle and he lost the only mature caribou he saw on a tough Quebec hunt a few years back.

Tough crowd, lol. I told him a gunsmith but wondered if anyone had ever came across this before.

I had a fellow ask me if I could fix a Remington model 700 a while back. - The bolt handle had fallen off because it wasn't brazed on properly.

I told him the best thing was to send it back to the factory, etc..

My policy is to let manufacturers address manufacturing defects.

I'll fess up. I own one in .270. There, it's said.blush

Hopefully the handle will break off and I can scrap it. Until then I'll keep slaying pigs with it...

I have one in .30-06. Shoots accurately, and I've killed a good number of pigs and deer with it. My only problem has been the little plastic clip release - it has broken twice on me. I don't like how the bolt sticks when moving it - it has always felt like it was gummy or dirty, but that's pretty minor to me.

+1 I finally made a mag release from aluminum after I got sick of replacing it.

For all the faults with design of the 710 mine has been a shooter and unless I am hunting in a stand it is my go-to hard use gun. I did replace that craptastic scope though...

No problems with mine, but their are definitely better budget guns out there

Just so you know, you've ruined the finely balanced crapnasty essence of the 710 package gun. I bet you no longer have to wear sun glasses to reduce the awesome glare the scope delivers while attempting to acquire the target. Sheesh...
