I've got 120 acres of wheat along with 85 acres of trees and brush on my place south of Abilene. I'm not able to spend a whole lot of time out there. I've seen deer walking in the wheat but I've never witnessed them hanging there for any length. Would that be there primary food of choice if they had acorns and other plants to eat? Should I be spending more time hunting the wheat? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Nothing can compete with acorns, but when they're gone, it's hard to beat winter wheat. Evenings have always been best for me.

+1 on the acorns. We actually gather up alot of them from around the house and throw them out later in the winter when most of them have already been picked off the ground. They won't hardly touch a corn feeder when there are acorns.

The deer will concentrate on the wheat better after the rut.. Wheat has a lot of carbohydrates and that's what they crave after all the running around due to the rut.... Our wheat fields have 10 times more deer after the rut and through February

RIght now the deer have plenty of other stuff, The Wheat is really for later in winter when everything is brown and dead, Then you will see the benefits along with healthier deer.
