Big snake, not doubt. 9 1/2 foot....I have my doubts.

Here is a link to a story about this snake. I doubt it was even as big as it is claimed in the story.

It's got a lot of rattlers and a big head, but it's an old picture and been around the internet for a couple of years.

It's called "forced perspective". It's when you hold something really close to the camera to make it look bigger and your mind uses the person way behind the object (snake) to compare it to for size. Fishermen do it all the time with fish pictures. Hunters do it too when they sit way behind the animal to pose for the picture. Makes the animal LOOK huge. If their hand isn't on the animal, then don't trust the size. And if you don't see elbows, then they are holding it out as far as they can. This guy even has a stick to hold it way out.

It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

Sorry! Didn't mean for you to take it that way. I didn't say one thing about the validity of "either" photo. Just wondered why everyone's holding a dead snake with a stick?

I don't care what a taxidermist has in a case. Do some research. There is no such thing as a 9 1/2 foot Western or Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake. Never has been. Talk to some snake handlers and ask them. No such thing, period.

I've seen lots of mounts that have been manipulated to appear different than when they were killed.

One of my good friends is missing half a finger because he tried picking up a dead rattler. He blew 90% of its head off with only a piece of his upper jaw and a fang remaining. An hour later on his way back he went to pick it up and the the snakes nerve reflex kicked in and it struck his finger. He had to have it amputated right below the knuckle. That's why I'd use a stick.

In these cases, the stick is being used to make the snake appear much larger than it is by holding it closer to the camera lens. Makes the snake look huge and the stick holder look small. We see it with fish on TFF all the time.
