Learn the basic calls the are not difficult to make with slate or box calls. yelp, purr and cluck
kee-kee calls are lost calls made mostly by young birds when separated from the flock. a long series of raspy yelps slowly spaced is the assembly call the boss hen uses to gather the flock and is a good one for fall hunting.
Mature gobblers are not as vocal as hens and oung are and often if heard when off the roost it is clucks. B November most of the time the jakes (young gobblers) have been kicked out of the flock and are in a flock of their own. there are times when all the flocks seem to come together though for what ever reason.
Calling can work in the fall but is a lot more fun in the sring when the toms are looking for love and find instead a hunter with a shotgun.
lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true Mainstream news might be fun to watch

Wait for the spring season and hunt them with a shotgun/bow, it is WAY more fun and you will have a blast. ^^^This^^^ X2 I'd rather hunt turkey in the spring than deer in the fall. It's my favorite time in the woods.

Calling a Tom in from miles away on a Spring morning is awesome. It can be a challenge if there is competition. I've had them pounce on my decoy. They are dumb as dirt, but spook easy. http://www.fieldandstream.com/node/1000312301

Box call is an all around call. Easy to use. Just get the rhythm down. Owl hoot in the morning to find them. Can do this in the dark. Set up about 50-75 yards away. Make some soft yelps until they are on the grounds. Then a little louder. If you have one coming in, do not call too much. Let him fond you. Using a shotgun, aim for the middle of the neck. Not the body. You will only roll him, and he will get back up and probably run. I call them in in the fall. I set up before fly down and use some yelps. Listen to how they answer you back. Call to them the same. Can't use bait here in PA. sorry So long, I love,Love,Love Turkey hunting. Last thing, don't wear any red, white or blue. Colors of the males head. Good luck!!!!!! You are welcome to PM me with any questions.

spring and fall turkey hunting are two birds of a different feather. both are very exciting! fall birds need to be scattered and their sex and ages determined to the best of your ability. early in the fall season hens will be grouped with their jakes and jennies. after a good scatter, sit down at the scatterpoint and listen carefully. usually in about 10 to 20 minutes you will start to hear kee kee runs. the brothers and sisters are scared and alone. mimic what calls they are giving and keep alert. older toms can be called usually by clucking coarse yelps or occasionally gobbling. I've hunted both seasons for 30years.love it still!!!

try an owl hooter just before daylight, may help you pinpoint them better on the roost, they can see movement better than a deer, is the tripod wrapped or open?

I have groups of hens and toms that walk around my blind all the time while deer hunting. I will probably not see another bird once I go and try to find them.
