Let me start off by saying that I've been hunting quite awhile. Yet this is the first time witnessing this, or any of my buds hearing of it. I'd love to hear some thoughts/observation on this.

In the stand yesterday evening at sundown overlooking the rut in action I see about 5 does in the middle of the field. To my west I see a 3 yoa 8 come out checking the field. To my East another buck just in the woods similar in age. Apparently they notice each other and start snorting/blowing at eachother across the field. Not a snort wheeze, just snorting and blowing. Then comes buck # 3 to join the action from behind me (never saw him, just heard). All three never approached the does, or field and it went on for about 10 minutes. My son and I actually started cracking up. The does would just kinda of look up ever so often and go back to eating. At first we thought we were busted but it was clearly evident they had no idea we were there and wind direction was not an issue. Not any of them looked our way, just faced eachother and it was still going on as we left after dark. Buck # 3 came in just after dark to the field blowing away. Pretty sure the fight was on sometime that night. If not, I guess it was just alot of s--- talking.

That's equivalent to "chest thumping"! You're right - they probably got it on during the bright moon light!

cool story, years ago was sitting in a stand on a high line, could see for great distance, yet on my 11 just inside a thicket, could hear the stomping & blowing then came the crashing, agh memories, great hunt, never did see the deer, but the thrill, after few hours got down & checked the area, scrape rub ground tore up up flag

Sounds really cool! I've heard a buck snort before but that's about the whole of it.

I have had that happen a few times. Same thing, thought I was busted but they were just having a long range stand off. Probably not and place to put a TC with field scan maybe catch the fight.

I've not heard those snorts but I did hear a tending buck grunt. Thought it was a crow at first and kept looking up to see where it was. Then I turned around to see a doe wandering in and a nice racked buck on the follow. I gave him a few grunts to see what he'd do but once he stepped in the clear, he didn't step again.
