I have a family member who has about 30 acres outside of Hearne and he wants me to take care of some varmints on his property. I'm looking for some feedback on if this is okay to be shooting coyotes, coons, etc on his property. I know they've shot guns out there before and the couple surrounding neighbors never had a problem, but it is not a huge place so I want to make sure it's legally okay to be hunting on a property this size.

We've never had a problem. I know few people with land around there that shoot.

absolutely..
it is unlawful for you to knowingly, or accidentally, shoot over a property line.

I think it will depend on what kind of 'varmints" your after. For coons, get a live trap and use a .22.

If its night hunting, better advise your local GW and SO

I would speak with the neighbors 1st also if possible, they may like the idea, or run you off, but at least you will have an idea how they will react.

The coyotes will figure you out after a couple tries so.....unless you know how to use snare properly.

How are the neighbors going to run him off? Nothing he's doing is illegal.

To answer the original question, unless there is specifically a town regulation, it's absolutely legal to shoot guns on 30 acres.

Unless you're in the city limits ( I don't know of any 30acre plots in the city limits) you'll be fine. Lots of coyotes right now in Robertson county and the hogs are pretty thick too. I have 2 pigs on ice now.

Thanks for the replies. I don't intend to hunt at night so I'm not worried about that. I just want to make sure I'm not having a conversation with a cop/GW.

Run him off they're property, didn't say he was doing anything illegal. The thought was he may be able to increase the acreage to hunt if the neighbors liked the idea too.

Being former LEO, I know a neighbor can be a pita, if for no other reason, calling and having GW, or other agency come out. Thus the reason I mentioned giving them a "heads up". They like that much more than getting out of bed on a reported spot lighter.

Generally legal, but always best to double check this with your local LE.

Yeah, I would not involve the neighbors. Check out the area on the ground and via Google Maps/Google Earth and determine what are your safe and unsafe shooting directions and you should be golden.
