Yep, I stick with what works.

You know I see a lot of posts where the lighter grain 243 ammo works better and now that I think of it, when I first started hunting with my dad's, now mine, 243 rife I was 15 and he was using the 80gr Remington Core-lokt ammo.... My first deer taken was on a large doe of a distance of about 170 yards, it was a head shot that dropped that old doe right where she stood... Thinking about it now we used that round with great success, it was accurate, and we never had a deer lost when we used this bullet. Since then I have went up to using the 100gr ammo and even switched to different brands..... I may pick up another box of the Remington 80gr Core-lokts and start using them again....I remember one time my father and I went hunting on a South Texas ranch my grandfather used to work on and my father shot a nice little buck and dropped him with a neck shot with one shot at a distance of close to 300 yards... Over the years as I have mentioned, I have tried different grains and brand ammo, I may just go back to the basics of what I used to use and what has worked with high success..... Cannon, how is that Vortex 80gr ammo working for you? that is one of the brands I was looking at giving a try.... I was also looking into using some federal ammo they now have at Wal-Mart that is 90gr.....

There's no reason to use anything more than a plain bullet in 243 Win for Texas WT deer or hogs at the ranges you describe. I use either the 100 gr Fed blue box or Rem Corelocs, whichever the rifles like better. At less tha $20 box, you can't beat them for your purposes. As has been said, placement is more important and you'll end up with more edible meat.
