Looks 4 plus to me. We have tons of young bucks and then this big boy shows up on camera.. What do you think he will score, Not that i care he is mine if he comes back by..

Man the face, neck and rest of his body say 3 for age but I have never seen a 3 yr old buck with stained hocks like that. I am guessing he is older than 3 though.

Looks 3.5 to me... Let him grow if you can.

Id say hes 3... no way hes older than 4. Do you have a lot of mature bucks or just a lot of younger ones?

All young bucks he is def the big boy of the area. I believe this is the same buck my wife missed a few days ago.. I hunt on a small piece of property it is hard to watch a buck like him walk off.. There are 2 30 acre tracks of land by mine and those guys shoot everything that moves.. A buck like this is a huge buck for me and our area.

3.5, and I would let him walk. But that pudgy doe in the middle of the frame is begging you to let her stay in your freezer.

He looks no older than 3.5 to me. But you know what? he's a great buck, and if you like him, take him!

I am in Coke County.. And yes all the does out here are fat all of them ... As far as the buck long story but he did come back out and i had the wrong gun with me.. Had him come out at 100 yards with 6 does. Made a good shot on him or so i thought with my wife's 243.. Had TXVARMINTER and Radar come out to help me find him. We found tons of blood, but it looks like he laid down several times and was spooked back up. Radar led us to the neighbors property that i do not have permission to go on to. So we were unable to recover the buck.. I hit him right behind the left shoulder and he hunched up and slowly walked off.. So now the 243 is back in the case and i pulled out the 270 now.

If you ever need a deer trailed and in the Abilene area give TXVARMINTER a call.. Radar did a great job tracking but due to where the buck went ( neighbors property ) we could not get him. I have left a note on all the gates to the neighbors property with my phone number to see if we can get on their property. Also called the Game Warden and our Constable for Coke County but neither had land owners number.

Thanks Chris sure wish we could have crossed that fence. I've never seen Radar so upset as when I pulled him and wouldn't let him go across the fence. He sulked around most of the day but seems to be doing better today.
Sure hope you get permission to go collect him. The way Radar was pulling on the lead he shouldn't be too far over there.

From your description of the deer's reaction to the shot and after the shot it sounds like you gut shot him.

243 might not be the problem, more so where he was hit.

Hope you are able to find him.
