Got a new lease in Uvalde, location north of the river on 55. The old guys at the lease say there are no rattle snakes on the place. Its a very large place, perfect habitat. I will continue wearing my snake boots regardless. Anyone have experience with snakes in this area? Also one of my coworker said they killed several alligators in the river that far north. I'm from far S. Texas and use to dodging both critters.

Anywhere there are barns, corrals, or structures which will hold mice has them. Some of the biggest we have found have come from the lease just south of Uvalde (one over 6 feet!). An hour south in the Chaparral WMA area, they are thick.

Worst area is still Three Rivers/Whitset in grassy cover.

I grew up around the Whitsett area. I have killed over 40 in one year in the 80's when Choke Canyon filled up. My cousin killed probably twice what I did that same year in that area. Cold weather and temps will put those snake in dens. I used to kill 3-5 per year in the Hill Country north of SA on a ranch. Never seen one after Oct 1st and then before mid April up there.

Where abouts? We hunt in the Montell area, and have never seen one.

There is no such thing as a ranch without rattlesnakes.

I have not seen one in 1.5 yrs on this place. My neighbors to the north/east of me claim the have never seen one in 20+ of owning their place. I still look for them though.

I told the other hunters on the lease " just because you dont see them does not mean there not here". I will continue to wear my snake boots.

there is no such thing as a rattlesnake free place in TX. They are experts in hiding and we just don't see them most the time.
