Hello, I apologize if this question has been posted multiple times, I am new to this forum as well as hunting. I am looking for a new bolt action rifle, and am leaning towards the Savage 11/111 Trophy hunter scope combo, or the Remington 783.
The Savage comes with a decent nikon scope, so thats one less thing to worry about. The 783 doesnt come with a scope but is also much cheaper. Any thoughts on these 2? Or possibly another rifle for starting out for deer and hogs?
Also would you guys suggest 3006, 270, or 308? Thanks!

Welcome!!!
No a fan of the combo's. I think you have better options buying separately.
Its a toss up between 700 ADL and savage

I'm with bobo on this one, whatever you decide buy just the rifle by itself. Then slap whatever scope you prefer.
I bought my son the Mossberg ATR scope combo the quickly swapped out the scope. I should of bought them separately. It would of saved me a little coin.

Firearms Unlimited in Ft Worth has three used Win Mod 70's for sale for $650 each. They look brand new. There is one .308, one .270 Win and one 30/06 Spr. Good buy for gently used rifles.

Savage is hands down the best in my opinion. Triggers are not great but can get a drop in basix custome trigger for 89 bucks and it will be a tack driver.

You're cool no worries Both savage and remmy 700 abl are both great guns with lots of future options. I say future because you can customize each very easily (triggers stocks, barrels, etc)

Basically the same question..one is ugly and won't work, the other is reliable, pretty & will work. Go with Chevy/Remington

I dig Remington. I always have, always will. When I head for the woods I grab my 110 25-06. It is my most trusted rifle. For the yotes, I grab my hog hunter 223. My remingtons should be feeling neglected.

I bought the same Savage combo you're speaking of. After purchasing, I immediately took the Nikon off and put a Minox scope on the rifle. I later sold the Nikon scope for $100.00.
But, the Savage is a great, great rifle.

I have shot a .270 for the last 30+ years. My favorite in the .270 is my Remington 700BDL SPS.

I have a 243 savage and I have a Winchester model 70 in a 270, love both of them to death, but I would probably go with a Winchester just cause the action I think is better and it is a beautiful little gun.

Tossing a new one in the ring. I love my Weatherby Vanguard 243 just as much as the Winch model 70 I used last season and any remmy I've ever shot. That with my Redfield Revenge 3-9x40 Accurange scope and she's a deadly beast. Named her Black Betty. In my opinion 243 is enough gun to kill anything in the state of Texas. Just my $0.02. take it for what its worth, at a 50% discount. lol.

Heck of a first post! You gonna dive in head first with this one probably getting you into the THF Hall Of Fame threads Buy the best "bang" for the "buck" Man there are a lot of great rifles out there now! Remington, Savage, Winchester, Weatherby, Tikka, CZ, to name just a few. All of these will shoot better than most of us. I bought my first Tikka although I have yet to shoot it but the action is awesome, I have a few CZs and I absolutely love the single set triggers, this really helps with shooting at the range! I have a couple of Brownings and I absolutely love them and they are all tack drivers! And then I have a couple of remy BDLs, and both of these are tack drivers! The one brand I don't own is Savage. Not sure why but I like good looking rifles with great looking stocks, I'm partial to walnut stocks and the Savages I always see are the ones with ogly stocks. Good luck!
