Our pig numbers have been way down this year for what ever reason so I was pretty excited when this big guy showed up. I had pulled my camera cards Friday morning and had pics of this Boar at my bow set up however it takes a north wind to hunt my bow stand. I was still excited just to see I had a pig on camera because they have been so hard to come by this year where I hunt. Anyway, Friday afternoon I decided to hunt the closest south wind stand to that bow set up in hopes that he might show up. The weather couldn’t have been better for pig movement! It was cloudy and cold with a steady moderate rain and a steady south breeze. It couldn’t have been more miserable for me but I stuck it out knowing that if a pig was going to show its self in day light hours that this would be the kind of day it would happen. Deer movement was pretty steady with several Does comeing and going and a nice young broken rack 8 point at the feeder. About 5pm that 8 point went on high alert and then hauled tail out of there. I knew something had to be coming and it would either be a cow or a pig so I shed my gloves and reached for the 300RUM. About 3 minutes later I saw a big black head peak out from behind the cedars but he wouldn’t come out. I kept him in the scope for a good 8-10 minutes waiting for a clear shot but he just wouldn’t present me with one much less come into the feeder. I decided I had waited long enough so I had to try to make something happen since he obviously wasn’t comfortable comeing into the feeder. I cranked the scope up to 16 power so I could find me a hole to shoot through and when I saw his front shoulder appear in the hole I sent a 180gr Nosler Partition his way. After the shot I didn’t see or hear a thing……..no dead pig on the ground…..no pig running off…..no squeeling…..nothing! I didn’t know if I had missed or if he just vaporized on impact. So I packed up my stuff and went down there to see if I could find any blood before the pouring rain washed it all away. Sure enough it was a solid hit and I followed the blood trail about 20 yards and found him piled up under a cedar tree. I have loaded up some pigs on the ATV much bigger than me before and did it all by myself. This one wasn’t going to happen though. I got him about half way off the ground and said nope, and then called my dad and told him to bring me the trailer. Although he is a very nice size boar with very broad front shoulders he didn’t have much for cutters at all which leads me to believe he was still pretty young. Didn’t have any battle scars either. All I know is he is as old as he will ever get now. *******PICS WERE TAKEN THE NEXT MORNING AFTER THE RAIN HAD CLEARED********

I don't always shoot deer, but when I do, I prefer B&C's. I don't always shoot ducks, but when I do, I prefer banded ducks.

You're a big pig killin' machine. Any idea on weight? I didn't weigh him but I can give you an educated guess based on many other hogs that I have weighed both larger and smaller than this one. Based on that I would put him in the 240's.

Thanks everyone. Last years hog hunting was epic. So far this year its been almost non-existent. Hopefully this cold air coming in tonight will help dry up a lot of the natural forage and force them to move around more.
