Good Friday mornin' to y'all. I'm going down to Falfurrias tonight for my first whitetail hunt and was wondering what activity y'all have seen down that way? Couldn't find anything in the threads regarding Brooks co.
Old San Anton' and Hill Country boy here really looking forward to learning the ropes. Thanks in advance for any report info.

Love that country down there. Sandy soil and some big bucks. Plenty of turkey as well.

Still running in bachelor groups. Showing up around feeders at last light and according to game cams, hitting feeders from 3-5am. Lots of rain when it counted so you should see some decent head gear this year.
Good luck!

Quick side of fal? East or west, north or south?

I am waiting for a text back to find out. Have not been out that way in 20+ years but as soon as I hear back I'll let y'all know. These are new friends of ours who have been gracious enough to invite us out to their property.
This day is dragging...

Thanks!
It's west of Falfurrias. I'll try to figure out if the buck poop is larger than the doe poop while we're out there. LOL

I hunt just south of Falfurrias and you are going to love it if it the right place. You will see as many buck as you do doe. A lot of times on our place I will hunt for 4 or 5 days and see mostly bucks. We have 2 miles of King Ranch fence so you know what kind of head gear we see. Good luck and hunt hard, the rut won't be until after Thanksgiving.

Hunted Saturday and Sunday. The place is out at past the very end of 3066 and south and that is one long road lol.
Saw a few small doe. Lots of javelina on the property and I learned that when the piggies are at the feeder the deer see them and haul butt. Had a chance at one healthy doe, she was on a trail heading toward a feeder. Checked her out for a minute as the sun was rising, she turned profile and I decided to take her when ALL OF A SUDDEN the javelina at the feeder started fighting, and my pretty doe turned and bolted.
No bucks spotted but heard at least 2 grunting. Hopefully things will be better when the rut is on and it gets colder.
Took one javelina and he went on the grill Saturday night. The property has not been managed well at all, looks like the bordering properties have their act together.
Learned a lot for my first hunt and we will be going back.

Does anyone have any tips/advice for hunting in a poorly managed property? Anything we can do when we go out next time to help with our chances of seeing more deer or am I just being impatient?

its still really early in the season for things to get good that far south.
you are really about a month early from any kind of decent hunting

Big boys come out and play after New Years. Before that it's pretty slow for us. Lots of rutting and chasing January 10th of this year when my ten year old shot his 11pt. Be patient. It is the land of giants!
