At what point in the season do you break out the decoy? Buck decoy or just a doe decoy? I would think the buck decoy would possibly spook most deer...other than the bruisers who wanna tear it apart because he's invaded his territory?

I would be using it during the middle of the chasing stage of rut and would try a small buck or doe

I don't always shoot deer, but when I do, I prefer B&C's.

I just bought one and it came in today. Gonna try it up in Ks if I ever get some time off from work to get up there.
Then I'll see how a East Tx deer will respond to it.

My Mom used to have one and every time we used it the deer would snort at it and run off. I always considered it a deterrent rather than a lure. That being said I never had a mature buck take a look at it so don't know how one would respond. During the rut I think it might work if you rattled and grunted with it in front of you.

I start using a decoy as soon as November hits. Most of the deer keep their distance but a shooter buck will have no problem coming up to it. I am not going to shoot does or little bucks in November anyway so I don't care. I especially use the decoy if I'm rattling during my hunt, it helps so much. And it is very cool to watch what the bucks do when they are approaching the decoy. Very fun to hunt with one!
