not the best picture but had to get the boys to school this am. This black deer and his brothers and sisters have been around for a few years at our place. This is the 1st decently clear picture i got of him. About 200yds from my back porch. The pic really doesnt show how dark he really is.

I have only seen one truly black deer in my life. It was a doe in the Texarkana area. Really neat.

I've seen one in comal county and one in kendall county.

there is a high (high being a relative term) population in hays, blanco,comal,kendall, travis and Guadalupe counties

I had never seen one either until we moved out here. At the end of the season last year i counted 3 bucks and 3 does. This year i have only seen this buck and 2 black does. Heres another pic there is another buck to the far right of pic for comparison. sorry its so fuzzy.

I used to see a melanistic mule deer doe and young buck, hers, in Sanderson.

I live in Kyle and work in driftwood last year I knew of at least 7 different solid black wt that I would see on my drive to work. They are always really cool to see even if its regular to see them. I posted one (buck) that got hit near my house opening morning

Have seen quite a few around the Martindale area.

Grew up in Hays Co. The melanistic deer were fairly common, especially around Mountain City. Would have loved to see a 4.5+ buck like that.

I went to school in San Marcos. When I was down there, I always heard of the black deer, but never saw one. Cool pic.
