The one trophy that I have been after. I got my first greenhead last year, so that's off the list. So, I was now focused on the woody - and to get it opening weekend.....whew! the pressure is off.....next quest - a band!

Now, the SAD part of the story - this was my ONLY bird after 3 days of hunting. That part sux, but if I was only going to bag one, then I am glad it was this one.

The bird is wet because it was raining. I sure hope that the taxi can fix him. He has a broken wing (see in pic 3) and a chunk out of his neck from the clean-up shot.

That is awesome...my first ever duck was a woodie. It was tore up so bad that I couldn't get the taxi to mount it. Been looking for one ever since. Only have seen one other and my gun was slug over my shoulder and I never even pulled up on it haha.

Congrats...take it to Pat at Avian Arts, if it can be fixed he can do it.

We don't see that many of them - so, it's a little more coveted.
Along with the greenheads - don't see many of them either.

Gads and widgeons - plenty of them - Snooze.

If he is that tore up, throw him in the freezer be sure to double bag him in zip locks (I use Freezer bags). Sit on him for a while to see if you get another one to mount in his place.

The wing won't matter if you plan to mount I'm a traditional resting pose. Wing only matters for flying pose. The neck could be an issue. But a good taxi can fix it.

No sir - inland

Of course, can't say where, but I have only ever seen a few and never had any shots on them before.

Yea, planned on sitting pose, so I think it will be fine. And if the neck can't be fixed, I will just turn him to the other side.

Good Job! I've heard of people getting a band on their first hunt and people who go their entire life never to get a band. Took me 7 seasons to get my first band! Good luck!

Grew up in Kansas duck hunting and probably got a band every third time out.....went to Texas and in 8 years killed over 1500 ducks without a single band.

I went from lucky to unlucky.....
